You say your engine is aout of an '86 Mustang and it's a carp engine? Do you mean carb. engine as in carbuerated and NOT fuel injected? And since it's an '86, I would assume that it is a 5.0 litre (to us old fogeys a 302 c.i.d.)

There is a lot that can be done with this engine, but to properly answer your question, we'd need to know what you're looking to get out of it......i.e.: how much horsepower, and what kind of a budget you'e working with.

85 was the last year for the carbed 5.0s (302). If your car has a 4-lug suspension, it must have been a six-banger originally. If you can post a picture of your VIN data plate (on the driver's door) or just the info off of it, we can tell you alot more about your car and help you. More info is needed.

Before you start putting money into your engine you should upgrade your suspension and steering to the V8 specs, The I6 suspension/steering weren't meant to handle the weight and HP that can be obtained from a V8.

While you are doing that you should also think about the brakes. '66's cmae with a single cylinder "fruit jar" master cylinder for the brakes, it is easy and relatively inexpensive to swap it out for a dual cylinder MC. I used one from a '67.

How is the rest of the car? Is it rust free?

just work on your car with this philosphie, need then want. I'd run a compression check to make sure everything is in good shape. A basic tune-up probably wouldnt hurt. Check every inch of the car for rust/leaks etc. Im assuming if it has headers then it has a full exhaust system if not, defintly get a exhaust system. Makes the car 200x more fun. is it 2bbl or 4bbl? If its 2bbl go ahead and buy a aftermarket 4bbl, it adds a lil more ponies. Probably should ****** a edelbrock performer/performer RPM intake also while your at it. Can pick them up cheap on ebay. the switch inside the glovebox is your emergency hazard lights switch.

and the box under the glovebox is the heaterbox, and that door thing on it, is a vent for outside air to flow inside.

Maybe you should try to start a club, sorta like the MCA (Mustang Club of America), but you'd be the MCUAE!

Welcome. I would recommend that you talk to some of the other Mustang owners in your area. They probably have some insight into the car and can help you. It might be better for you to get some hands-on introduction to the car.

Also, when you hear a term or word used here it will help to have a reference of what people will try to describe for you.

The carb(carburetor) is on top of the engine and under the air cleaner(big round thing under the hood). Remove the nut in the center of the air cleaner, remove the lid, remove the air filter(circular paper element), then remove the base(shaped like a dish). All of those items make up the air cleaner assembly. Under all that is a block shaped mechanism called the carburetor(pronounced=kar ber ray tore). That is where air and fuel(petrol) enter the intake to mix and distribute throughout the 8 cylinders. The Carb is bolted to the intake. If you have the air cleaner assembly off you can look down the top of the carb and see a large hole divided into sections. You should either have 2 or 4 holes. This is where we get 2bbl and 4 bbl(bbl is barrel, like for example: a pistol has 1 barrel, a shotgun may have 2bbls). Having more barrels means more room for more air and more fuel so you can possibly get more HP. From here you should see a long rod runninf from a link on the carb. It swivels, and is connected to the accelerator pedal. When you step on the pedal, the carb opend up more, letting more air in and more fuel too. That is what makes you accelerate, speed up and go.

On either side of the intake are humps. The humps are called valve covers which is self explaining, they cover the valves. The valve covers are bolted to the cylinder heads. The heads also have the headers bolted to them. The heads and intake are like the lungs of a body, they let air in and let exhaust air out. With a manual, you would have pictures to get an idea of what is inside your engine. That way you do not need to open up the engine.

The master cylinder is the pot where your brake fluid is held, in short. It is on the drivers side under the hood. It is connected to the brake pedal on the other side. It is shaped like a cylinder and has a screw, twist on lid, which is aproximately 6cm in diameter. You should make sure it is filled with brake fluid as high as possible. Make sure you use brake fluid only.

Before you decide to buy and bolt on performance parts, get to know your 66 stang well. It has a different engine than original so we don't know what performance items are already in it. We don't know what the preveois owner already did to the car. Like rear end gears or a cam shaft. Have fun, ask lots of questions. Be patient, take your time.
Now, how is it that U.A.E. has classic Mustangs out there? Did you have it imported into the country or did you buy it from someone local?

I think he means its a 5 speed and in the 6th position there is "reverse". The progression of shifting, if you went from 1-5 and maybe thinking to hit 6th you would hit "R".

You need to first start by putting a complete v8 suspension on that car. It sounds to me like a half job. Which means the suspension is prolly all 6 banger stuff including the rear differential, front brakes, front suspension.

Also, just type us the information on the VIN because that picture is not very clear, that'll make it easier.

Take pictures of your brakes with the wheels off, and under the rear of the car. That'll help us figure out what 6 banger stuff is on the car that you need to change.

I studied Chinese but it was a language institue so I picked up some Arabic, Korean, Japanese, Hungarian, and Russian while I was there.

Take your time. I've been sick for power too. Make a list of everything you want and then get it all at once. I understand you dilema with the shipping charges. I live in a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Getting things out here isn't cheap. So, get everything you need to fill up a container and your set. We're all here for you.

To change the suspension from the I6 configuration to the V8 configuration you will need a new rear differential (either an 8' or 9" diffy) and axles (w/ the 5-lug pattern), for performance purposes you might also consider changing the rear gears to a 3.50:1 or a 3.55:1 ratio. Getting the whole set-up may be difficult for you, you won't find them in the links I posted. You might try a search for "currie". Depending on the condition of your leaf springs, you might want to replace them too. (AND all the hardware!)

For the front suspension and steering (mostly steering) you'll need to replace the Pitman arm, Idler arm, Center link, Tie rod assy's and front spindles. Depending on their condition you might want to replace your Upper and Lower A-arms, Ball Joints and coil springs. (you can get a fairly complete front suspension rebuild kit that includes everything but the springs in the package from most of the vendors I listed).
The spindles might also be hard to find too, they won't be listed on those sites. A common practice here, especially with the front drum to disc brake conversion is to get the spindles of an old Granada, along with the outer tie rod ends, calipers, rotors etc......(do a search on this forum for the Granada disc brake conversion).
While you have the front end apart, think about doing the "Shelby drop" it is the cheapest mod that can be done to these cars. It entails relocating the mounting holes for the upper A-arm and it improves the cars handling. There is a link for this that has a template and gives the new spec.s for the alignment, but I can't find it....maybe someone else here can help?
