Glad you are OK, brighter days are ahead. As much as it sucks, many have been far less fortunate than you. One of our own got stuck in a car-B-cue accident not so long ago and both he and the car did not fair very well.

As for helping those in need, while I belive in it and would have stopped, many folks are simply lawyer shy and don't wish to risk being sued for being a samaritan. I remember reading a Boston case less than a year ago where this guy was driving recklessly, weaving in and out and in and thru traffic just to end up one more lousy car space ahead in the fast lane then he was 5 minutes ago (you know the type) and he totally trashed his car into the guard rails when the guy in front suddenly slammed his brakes. Apparantly the engine immediatly went up in smoke and the driver was unconscious. The guy he had just cut off and who nearly avoided an accident himself got out and yanked the guy from the car before the flames took over. He stayed with the guy until the paramemdics arrived. 2 weeks later he gets a court order as the guy's scum bag lawyer claims if he had not been moved then his neck injury would not be inhibiting his movement which has now destroyed his lively hood (yeah but wouldn't he be a charcoal briquet too?). The samaritan got stuck with the bills and a monthly income supliment. Nice reward for saving the guy who I personally would have wanted to beat to a pulp instead if I were there. Sure, mayeb he has a place in heaven waiting for him, but sometimes doing the right thing ends up being wrong in today's twisted my lawyer is better than yours world.

And if I were the guy that pulled the other one from the wreckage.....My countersuit would be for toxic inhalation of fumes while saving that rat bastid's life. Or for hurting my hands while helping him out of the vehicle.

Hey Matt,

Glad to hear you're ok. That's the most important part. At 19, most of us think we will live forever but through situations like this, we learn how fast it can all change. As one involved in an industrial accident, I'll have a screwed up shoulder for the rest of my life, be thankful you are ok. And I know it's a Mustang....but in the end, it's just a car.
Worst that can happen...you might have to do some of this for a while!!!

yeah, anyone have an estimate about how much it will be...lets see, the whole left side of the cars sheetmetal needs to be replaced and the bumpers, and a new paint job and emblems ect.??? i was just wondering off hand

Need Pics please

Hey guys, after the accident, the car is currently in the shop and estimates are being put together, but my dad and i had a talk and i now understand how fast an accident can happen, so my dad and i both agree that i need to get a racing harness system, but we either have to get a racing seat in the car or we have to weld the bar in the back seat.........which option should i go with and can any of you post pics of you set up so i can get some ideas of what i want to do.....i now know how important safety is..thanks as always guys...

P.S. also can u post a website that might have the things i need on it to get the seat, bar, harness sytem, ect..

Years ago I added shelby style lap belts and simpson H sholder belts that i bolted into the rear seat belt mounts. No permenant modification to the car and can be installed in an hour.

While I don't want to down play safety by any means, a racing harness might be a tad overkill in this situation. A regular modern 3pt harness should be more than enough (ideas of a setup: http://www.stephanies-mustang.com/seatbelt.htm) and personally I'd be more concerned about that stock steering wheel and the solid impaling spear it actually is. Spending less on a harness and getting a colapsable column as well may be bucks better spent.

I agree, a collapsable column is a definate need. I have looked at doing it for a few years. But anyone with 2 hours can install the H belts I am talking about and they dont require any modification to the car. You cannot say the same about either the addition of a modern harness or the steering column replacement.

well how would i go about installing a 3 pt. harness? something about it installing in the back of the seat...i do not really want to go through the trouble of mounting the shoulder harness and stuff, that site looked like it requied a lot of work..........i am looking for a safe and easy alrenative i guess that is what i am trying to say

Hey matt, if you want to come by and check out the way I set mine up you are free to any time. Im in winter park basically behind the fashion square mall. (over by the old navy base). Basically I replaced the lap belts with reproduction 66 shelby cobra belts. The old ones unbolt out, you then screw in the big eyelets and clip the belts in....done. In the back the H belts are put in by removing the rear seat upper and lower. Then unbolt the old rear seatbelt bolts. Bolt the rear seatbelts back in with the eyelet bolts. Now clip in....done. To remove them from the car....unbolt em...

yeah, that would be awesome, lets see here, i am at college right now, stetson university, but when i go home sometimes my family lives in lake mary. That would be pretty sweet if i could check it out, i wont have my car of course but i think i could find some means of getting there
