I just got some 4.10 gears... and started thinking. will the tranny shift into od at the end or the 1/4 mile or what?
if it does... is it safe to go into OD and keep on pushing it to finish the 1/4 mile?

assuming you have a stock aod (no specialized shift kit), your tranny and computer together will not allow aod to shift into the overdrive band at WOT, so unless you let off the throttle before the end of the 1/4, you wont shift into OD.
some shift kits allow shifting into the OD band at WOT which is not good because the OD is too weak for that kind of power.
then again, if youre really afraid of it doing that anyway, you can just use D instead of the OD selection on your shifter. good luck and have fun with your new rear end
The old AOD's are fully mechanically controlled, only the newer AODE's are computer controlled. If your aod is indeed fully stock, I would drop in at least a transgo shift kit to keep the thing alive, especially since you drag race it.
