I have blocked off my EGR, and now want it back.
To complete the elimination you just need to block the EGR valve (a steel plate will do), and get a resistor plug to keep the check engine light from coming on. However the resistor plugs do not keep the computer from throwing codes, at least it doesn't keep mine from throwing codes.
The egr is one of the rare emissions systems that has several positives and few negatives.
Pros
Better fuel economy
No loss of power at WOT
Less production of NOx
Can help provide quicker warm ups, increasing engine life
If not shut off at the computer, blocking the egr could cause ignition timing problems.
Cons
Engine bay clutter
EGR wears and breaks, just like other parts on the car
It can be done. Most people have little or no problems with part throttle timing after blocking the egr. Some have reported worse fuel economy, but others reported no change.
I personally see no reason to remove the system, but if it is what you decide to do I would gladly help. It's just not for me.
