guys with fti/custom cams and stock botom ends....come here

Ok guys, this is for final-50, killercanary, and the others with this set up.

now before i get yelled at, yes i have spoken with da man Ed C., but i want some actual users of the parts advice too. I know he stocks afr's.

My last thing i need to figure out on my new combo is heads/valvetrain. Looking to shift at 6k+

Im gonna have an eddy rpm intake, 30lb injectors, stock bottom end, and fti cam specs are @ .050", .547/.536 224/228 110lsa. It will be sprayed and once my stock bottom end bites the dust a sportsman 306 will go in.

So if you have a stockish bottom end, please list your fti/custom cam specs (pm if they are a secret:D ), what heads you have/recommend, your dyno numbers, and what your valvetrain set up is.

Thanks, Kyle

Kyle, that camshaft was designed for a stock rev limiter Twisted Wedge headed car. That is the head you need along with a set of FTI springs. Ed's ps2 spring kit should be enough. It should like a 6,200 rpm shift. It will make good low end and pull hard after 3000. The powerband rating on it was 2800-5800 I believe which is why 6200 rpm should be a perfect shift point.

Fwiw guys, thats my old cam he bought from my friend (who I sold it to lol) and my friends ported rpm manifold. I expect better numbers from you than I did since you'll be using the RIGHT tb and manifold :D

Kyle

I'd listen real close to what GRN92LX is saying. Unless you put the combo back darn close to what it's designed for, your custom cam benefit goes right out the window. It could easily run worse than an OTS cam guess. Be no benefit to have others FTI/AFR cam specs since you have an FTI/TW cam. Unless I am missing your intention here?

I was reading some stuff Ed was saying the other day over at Hardcore.

He is still saying the focus should be on a well matched combo of parts, not just on the cam, or the heads, or intake.

I gotta be thinking like Kyle above.

Since Mike told you the cam was built with TFS heads in mind, maybe you should run them.

You said you talked to Ed ...... What did he say?

As for my combo

You can read some of my old posts (2 yrs or older btw) or go to my site for all the details.

In a nutshell

Here are a few things he built the cam around
My expectations for the combo
Pass Tx emissions testing
Head choice
Intake choice
Stick trans
Steep gears
No pcm restrictions

I am at a bit of a loss at how to answer what you are looking for because the next FTI combo guy may have told Ed he was more interested in 1/4 mile performance.

Hope you can see what I'm trying to say here Kyle :D

I'm just not sure every FTI guy will have a combo of parts that match YOUR expectations.

As for valve train

If you go TFS you will be using stud rr's so that is a known.

The combo and dyno pull is in my sig for your review. IIRC, most other 94-95 SN member FTI combo/dyno results are available in their sig as well.

Has any of this stuff helped you Kyle?

My cams specs are .5372/.5304, 220/224, 111deg. seperation

It does make huge power up to about 5600 and then starts falling off like a rock. I think the valvetrain is too heavy - not sure since I have only been able to talk to Ed's helpers. I think I have more power and a better curve but need alot more tuning.

I have heard that the new CraneCams Zcams is also the same fast ramp lobe style profiles.

Also I do want to give thanks to Final 5-0 for the great info on tuning and KillerCanary for the advice!! Tuning is definately a work in progress.
