I purchased a Mac o/r H pipe a couple weeks ago for my 04 Gt. It has not yet been installed and I am questioning my decision. I am having a feeling that I will regret it because it will be too loud. I installed a flowmaster American Thunder system about a year ago. Everyone I have been talking to says it will be super loud and I have a long commute to work every day which means I can get sick of it very fast! Should I just go with a PYPES CATALYTIC X-PIPE?
Will a catted pipe make any kind of a difference vs the stock pipe that I have now or is it not worth the money?
I bought the pipe from Brenspeed.

I appreciate any input.

A prochamber is just as loud as the o/r h, just different sounding. If I were you I wouldn't second guess yourself dude. I have that exact pipe on my '04, and in my opinion, it sounds badassed.. I've never gotten a "that's too loud" complaint.. not even from the cops.

The proof.. First clip is stock midpipe with flows, second is mac o/r h with flows. Right click, save as.

I just put the Mac o/r h-pipe on my '02 2 nights ago. Keep in mind, I have (regular) Magnaflow cat-back. It is loud, very loud. I thought that it would be quieter being that I have the Magnaflows, but I was wrong. It is too loud for my taste. I am taking it off tonight and going back to the stock h-pipe for now until I can afford a catted MRT H or catted Magnaflow X.

Not true. Prochamber is bit quieter then o/r H. Because sound lose its volume in chamber first befor it comes out of muffler.
It is different sound - I love prochamber sound - then O/R H tho

unfortunatly for Mike57181, with American thunder, it'll be pretty loud. But considering your combo of exhaust is what is considered by many to be some of the best sounding exhaust combo, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Infact, I think you'll grow to love it. And in no time at all, you'll be posting here asking how to make it louder like everyone else.

If its turned out to be too loud after many many positive complement you'll recieve by total stranger at every traffic light stop, and see envy on countless highschool punks face, then you can add high flow cats to it. Its newer 3piece O/R H right? U can get catted section from parts shopper, and add it prety easily.

Man, I'm getting spintechs welded in for my side exhaust and having a Mac O/R H put on at the same time. Hope it isn't so damn loud I have to worry about being pulled over. My car's already a cop magnet..... :(

But, it's WAY too quiet now. I have to change it to something.....

Must depend a lot on the catback too, then, because a buddy of mine here has an '01 with a prochamber, and it's easily as loud as mine.. can't recall what catback it is.. dynomax maybe.

I have the American Thunder system with a MAC o/r pipe from Brenspeed. I love the sound, but it is LOUD!

However, when I put the car in 5th gear and cruise, the sound mellows out quite a bit. I even have a convertible and it isn't that bad.

You will probably think it is very loud at first, but then after you learn how to drive it to keep the noise down, it really isn't that bad......Then when you romp on it, it puts a huge sh** eatin grin on your face!

If you put it on, please let me know how well it fits. Mine doesn't fit very well on my '98, but some others haven't had a problem.

So is your magnaflow cat-back a 2 chamber system? Also did you purchase the mil eliminators? Was the installation fairly easy?
Thanks

The Magnaflows are not a chambered muffler like the Flowmasters are, they are a straight-thru muffler. I did get MIL Eliminators. The install was pretty easy, except trying to get the h-part to mate up with the "legs" that come off the exhaust manifolds, I think I have a leak right there.

I have decided to keep the h-pipe on for a while and see if it will "break in" like everyone is telling me. Tonight I am going to double chech to make sure I have no leaks. I'm going to drive it this weekend around and see if I like it or not. I'm hoping I'll like it. I guess we will see.

DON"T DO IT. Just stick with you o/r H pipe. I have MAC longtubes, MAC o/r H, and flowmaster 40's welded in. Before the o/r pipe, I had a MAC catted H (which was freakin $400 btw) and the difference in sound is hardly worth it. I did not notice a significant difference in volume going from cats to no cats. Personally, I don't think the o/r pipe is that loud with the flowmasters, plus the LT's should make mine even louder. I say just stick with what you have and be happy because it should sound very good. Don't spend a huge amount of money on the MAC catted H, its a ripoff.
