whats the difference from buying a o/r h pipe from me just getting my cats cut off wouldnt it be about the same since gts come stock with an h pipe

For the most part it is the same thing. If you want to be monstrously technical about it a steel pipe that has been formed without having any cuts and welds inside will have less turbulence then a mandrel bent unit you buy etc. etc. etc.

In the real world unless you're willing to do the job (cutting/welding) yourself a lot of shops will stay away from the sort of thing because tampering with emission controls is very much illegal, so if you do find the odd person to do that for you it comes down to how neatly and how cheaply the job gets done so it may be just cheaper to go for the aftermarket unit.

Instead of going thru the headache of cutting and welding to remove the cats, u can just take ur H-pipe off and hollow-out the cats! Just a thought.

I've seen a LOT of stuff about people going to o/r mid pipes. I thought the stock mid-pipe from the factory actually had really high flow cats and that you don't REALLY see much of a gain from losing them (maybe 3-5hp) until you are pushing some major power, like 700+ RWHP... Am I wrong, I don't remember where I heard/read this...

+1 real power in these cars exhaust wise comes from long-tube setups and even those really need F/I to push out good power gains.

I ran an o/r prochamber for two weeks. I felt a loss of power down low and the dyno confirmed this. With stock catted H my car dynoed 297RWHP/308RWTQ. With the O/R Prochamber my car dynoed 302RWHP but only 305RWQ. When I had hi-flow cats welded in I was at 305RWHP/312RWTQ. Also the hi-flows produced the best sound. O/R midpipes tend to be a little sloppy sounding.

well the reason i want to take my cats off is because my brother just got flows put on his stang and it really isnt any louder but his is an 04 dont know if that really makes a difference the guy that put them on told him he would cut his cats off if he wanted him to

With an 04 the issue with catalytic converters is a bit different because those particular models have like 2 or 3 cats per side and they don't flow particularly well. With the S197s there is only one cat per cylinder bank and they are good flowing units.

Be warned if you put an O/R H-Pipe on a 2005 - up GT, you may not be happy with the resulting sound. I speak from personal experience. The sound gets very raspy when the VCT kicks in and it's very loud. The 2005 - up GT's do not respond as well to the Flows like all the earlier models did.

I don't really recommend losing the cats, I've heard a lot of people complain about the sound, there is really no performance to be had, unless you do it yourself you'd be spending more money, and it's a mod that really doesn't give you any horsepower while, depending on the state, makes your car not pass inspection. I don't really see how losing the cats is worth it...

I have a O/R H pipe and I saved the stock H pipe for emissions - so I went with 'shorties' so I could switch it back ....although I did them at the same time - pypes shorties + O/R H ...to me it really gave the car a growel - woke it up - for sound and punch power.

How loud do u want it?? Listen to mine (grabber blue 2010) in the video in my sig, it has BBK Equal Length Tuned Shorty Headers, and an off-road X-Pipe, AND, IN THE VID IT STILL HAS STOCK MUFFLERS!! SO, IF U WANT THAT VOLUME AND SOUND, THAST HOW, IF YOU WANT LOUDER, CHANGE MUFFLERS.. SINCE THEN I CHANGED TO CUSTOM STAINLESS STEEL MUFFLERS, BUT I THOUGHT THE SOUND W/ TUNED SHORTIES AND O/R X-PIPE AND STOCK MUFFLERS WAS PRETTY NICE, AND HAD NO DRONE!!

You can go to u-tube and listen to the differences between X pipe or H pipe - Whether to go Long tubes or shorties - I would go L/T's - for the amount of work it takes to install them - you might as well put the L/T's in - I went w/'shorties' b/c of the strict emissions out here in AZ.....one day I'll have to switch back to the stock H - I personally think the H-pipe is the way to go for more of a loud hotrod sound - the X pipe is too 'rice burner' sounding raspy.....just my thoughts.....

Sorry to anybody with an x-pipe, but +1 on the "rice" comment, it just doesn't sound like a mustang to me when an x is on there, especially o/r... But everybody has their own opinion...

Both set-ups I run, glasspacks/resonators, SLP LM and glasspacks/glasspacks, MACs sound awesome with my catted X. These two set-ups sound nothing like rice or tuner.

Well of course a 351W is gonna have a good sound, it's hard to make a 351 sound like a ricer no matter what exhaust you put on it...

well i found a clip on you tube of a mustang with o/r h and flowmasters it sounds pretty good so i will prob go with that set up the only thing is i heard flowmaters cut some of your power
