Had an accident! I got rear ended by a scion

Hey all, it's been a while since I've been on the forums. I just recently got rear ended on the highway, long story. The rear driver side of my car got really macked up... Estimated price by my friends shop is $6000 parts and repair, any other shop wont touch it. I did receive money from the insurance company.

I really don't want to part with the car. I've spent so much money on the procharger, suspension, a full exhaust i never put on, gears, etc.

I am trying to figure out my options.

1. I can get this guy to fix the car for that price of $6000. (issue, i'm afraid it just wont be the same...)

2. I can buy another body and swap the engine and parts. My only question is... would i be able to buy a gt body? Is it the same besides the engine? What other parts are different? And how much would an estimate price be for swapping engine, tranny, etc.

I just want to drive my coby again, but go about it the right way.

What year cobra did you have? was there any frame damage?

1997 pacific green. I guess ill post up a picture of the damage. I'm pretty sure there is some damage to the frame as the drive shaft at the u-joint seems to be on an angle. but they said they could stretch the frame...

Wow bro that sucks so bad. If you're that attached to the car, I say fix it if you can. Only thing is, it really may never be the same. I bent my truck frame and had it straightened and it drove fine. Never had an issue. The damage looks pretty bad but I've seen worse get fixed and be put back on the road. Salvage title will kill any resale value though.

I'd just get a new 96'-98' gt body or even a real cobra for cheap and transplant everything from your wrecked cobra into that one. The differences in the GT's are the engine, wiring harness, suspension, interior and gauge cluster. So it won't be that hard to swap out. your best bet would be to get a cobra with a lot of miles on it for cheap and swap everything out

That really sucks... I had the same thing happen to me but I was at a stop light and the guy behind me had a seizure and failed to brake. He hit me pretty good. No the car will not be the same. It will creak. Mine does but I love my car and had it fixed anyway. Most people don't see or feel what I do in it so it's not too bad.

How do the doors open/close. That is a pretty good indicator of how much frame damage has been done to the car. The axle aliment could just be upper/lower control arm damage. I would put it up on an frame aliment table before I made a decision.

This. I suspect you can find a high mileage Cobra for around 6k.

its toast, the only way to fix that would be to cut it in half, just get a clean v6 shell and swap everything, ive always sworn if anything happens to my car, thats what i will be doing....

unfortunately judging bu pictures. looks like you car got hit in the worse spot,
i bet if you remove all the carpeting. from trunk you'll see trunk floor all messed up.
it would not have been so bad. if hit about 6-8" lower,

but as "midnightdriver" has stated about the doors. is a good indicator,
but you just can't tell buy appearance alone. a visit to fram shop should tell all.

if worse comes to worse. get you a mach OR terminator,

anyway sorry about ur car though.
