Hail damage! How should I paint my car?

How would you repaint a 1994 Mustang GT?

Hey guys. My GT was in some golf ball sized hail this week. Insurance will pay for the damage repair/repaint and I am trying to decide what I should do with the car as far as the repaint is concerned. I want to keep it Opal Frost, but want to know how to make it "different" from the other O.F. Mustangs.

If someone has an different/new idea and can render it in Photoshop or something, feel free to post it. I was considering something along the lines of a "Chip Foose" style "upside down" two-tone like he does with the Foose Mustangs. That will only be different for a short amount of time though, I think. Of course, the tried and true "GT stripes" that are on the car now is an option. As is a "ghost flames" scheme. A color change is the last thing I would consider, as it is VERY labor intensive. I am not including it in the options, because every Mustang looks awesome in black.

Let the games begin!!

Ha. The minute I saw this thread title I knew you were from Columbus. Lots of cars damaged.

Luckily the hail didn't come with the storm that visited me.

I would paint it straight opal frost personally, getting rid of the stripes and stuff you have. Thats just my opinion though.

wow, thought this was one of my old threads revived!

lucky you're getting it taken care of. i say take advantage of it and do what you really want, even if you have to thrown in a little money out of your own pocket to get it.

I have access to a body shop and can do just about anything with paint that I want to. I'm really hoping to see some big ideas come from this thread.
Where would I part it for the two-tone? The existing body line? I was thinking of using a Candy Red, for the contrasting color. Black is good, very sophisticated.

I'd do black on the arch level and up...basically the mirrors and bottom of the window line and up black, then the doors, fenders, hood, trunk and lower opal. There was a red/black car around with this scheme, when it comes time to paint mine i'll be doing something like this. Looks great to me.

Or are you into stripes or anything like that?

I have black GT stripes on it now. (see sig) I did it cause it was a little different and easy to do in the driveway.

So, you're saying the "canopy" in black and the rest as OF? That would look good.

I was thinking of just re-doing the OF and putting a matte black accent on the hood, between the two ridges on either side. Like the Boss 302 Mustangs. The OF can look kind of "non-masculine" and it needs to be "butched" up, just a bit. That and some black 9" and 10.5" x 18" Bullitts would do the trick. Right?

My vote is for 2 tone. That's probably what I'll end up doing .... but it will still be O.F. primarily.

I was messing around with a pic in Paint. (I have PS, but can't seem to learn it very well). My car looks like a NC State Trooper car, lol. I painted it from the body line up, minus the spoiler. Also threw in the side skirts & bottom of the bumper. Yeah, I was bored.

That looks great! Just what I was looking for. Thanks for taking the time to do that! I like how you colored the rocker panel covers the same as the top. Should I use the GT RP covers or something else? Should I paint them flat black or the same as the top?

I've got it scheduled. The car is going to the body shop on 11/06/06. I have decided to do the two-tone as illustrated in the picture submitted by "SeventyMach1". (Thank you!) It really makes sense, since the top of the car has 99.9% of the damage. I am also having the antenna removed and the hole filled. ;)

I also have a set of Eibach Sportline springs for it. Woo-hoo! I can't wait till Spring!!!!!

One last question: Should the spoiler get painted black, or stay OF like the bottom of the car will be?

DSG - High in metallic

no two tone... no stripes, no stickers.

just a mint, high quality paint change.

add a flake of red it in it, maybe a pearl if you want.
IMO - a rich looking paint job will always grab more attention than a two tone one.

These are the pics of the car in the paint shop. I did end up getting an S281 wing. Woo-hoo! The car is pretty much ready for primer, in these pics.
