hard clutch

i got the car a little while ago and the stock clutch quadrant broke on me, but after gettin a billet one it works great but it just seems like the clutch is really hard... when i got the car the guy said it has a stage 2 clutch in it. when i press it down i have to use my whole leg to push it in and after a while my foot gets sore and i wasnt sure if its like that with a stage 2 clutch or something is not right

Sounds like a sticking clutch cable.

If you have anything other than a Ford or Maximum Motorsports cable, I would look there first.

Agreed. Most likely a clutch cable issue. Cheap ones can bind really badly.

i know when i put the new clutch quadrent in, the clutch cable slid back and forth by hand when it was out of the car.. im not sure if it could make a difference when it is all hooked up. they guy i bought the car from said that since its hard cause it has a stage 2 clutch but it just feels to hard.. im not sure if it could be the clutch or something

A crappy cable will slide easy with no tension on it. Toss in some tension and some heat (headers) and it can feel like trying to push the pedal through quick sand.

Clutch manufacturers are congizant of pedal pressure. They generally keep diaphragm pressure on the lighter side, instead changing the friction materials to increase hold (often with the side effect being a more abrupt engagement). The heaviest pedal I've felt is a HD Ford clutch and it sounds like it's nothing compared to what you're feeling.

sounds like thats what the problem is. i know i have a new one from autozone for it but it is the same one just new.. i would probly be better off and spend the money on a better quality one? got any that would be a good cable for a good price? cause im tired of having to put all my force just to put the clutch in.. makin me not fun to drive and not want to drive it

might want to check it to make sure. one of my friends cars once had this problem. we figured out it was the pressure plate taking a dump after it pushed all the thrust out of a fairly fresh shortblock.

You have one from Autozone installed on the car now? If so, this is definitely your problem.

If you still have the factory cable, use it. If not, you'll need to find a Ford OEM cable. Try the dealerships or Maximum Motorsports :: The Leader In Mustang Performance Suspension

Most of the time this is caused by a misrouted cable. Look at it from the front. Should pull on a straight shot. I've seen guys route them on the wrong side coming through the k-member and puts the cable on a bind. Check it.

i got a new one from autozone but i havnt put it in yet, the way i have it right now, the cable keeps coming out of the little holder piece thats by the engine, if i put it in it is a little bit harder but when i pops out it makes it a little easier but its still very hard. it does sound like the pressure plate could be the problem. even when the car is off and there is no heat to it, it is very stiff..

No matter what, you're going to want a ford cable (be it an OEM replacement or the MM cable), so you might as well order one and try it.

Popping out of the locating bracket sounds like there is a lot of torque on the cable (read binding).

finaly got the clutch cable here and got it put in, and it works amazing! wanted to thank u guys for the help, now i can actually enjoy driving my car
