My stock (appears stock) HB sheared into 2 pieces. I ordered a Fluid dampened replacement, from C.A.T. Power Engine Parts (C.A.T. Power Engine Parts) via a local speed shop. I specified 94 mustang gt 5.0 HO. I get it torn apart, cant get the bolt out of the crank, so I use triple A to get it towed back to the base auto hobby shop. Long story short, I get the old one off, part arrives in the mail, and the new one wont go on because it is hitting the water pump. So Im thinking I bent my crank when my balancer broke. It cant be more than a 1/4"- 1/2" od too big, but by now I'm stuck with it, and paying daily lift fees. I just came across the shipping invoice after the fact, and it says 81-93 SFI Fluid Damper, and the same for the pulleys, which the alternator pulley is to thick to bolt on safely. Is this common, I read on (ATI - Custom Ford Water Pump) that you may have to machine the water pump, or buy a $400 replacement. Any thoughts (besides read the shipping invoice first) if it is the distributors fault, will they swap out a performance part thats already been installed? If not, can I make this part work? Sitting dead in the water here.

Never bought anything from C.A.T. so I can't say if their HB'ers are junk or not. I bought a Pioneer Automotive 872030, which had a diameter of 6 3/8 inches and it fits perfectly. The C.A.T one is listed as 6 1/2 inches, which is an extra 1/8 inch bigger than the Pioneer. You can probably get a stock replacement from your local auto parts store and try to install it, see if it fits.

Be careful about buying a water pump, make sure it's for a 94-95. The pump rotates in the opposite direction on the 86-93 'Stangs.

It is possible your crank is bent, it all depends on how long the engine ran without the proper weights. No way to tell unless you get a HB on and start 'er up.

The pulleys I'm not sure on, C.A.T. lists the 94-95 part number as PK-1065 or PK-1065A. Make sure you have the right part. If you have the right one, they may have labeled the package wrong.

Apparently my ex-husband made that mistake.

What??? The pump is totally different on an old stang, but it most certainly rotates in the same direction.

Dude you didn't bend a crank, you bought a no name brand balancer that has the wrong diameter. Send it back, get the Pioneer one, and I'm sure you will be fine.

That's not what I've heard. Our water pumps are actually called a reverse rotation water pump, so there must be some pumps that ate "standard" rotation. A bit of research on Google tells me that all serpentine belt Fords have the reverse rotation water pump, it's only the older "V" belt Fords that have the standard rotation.

So I take back what I said about the water pump, I presume a Fox-body pump would either not bolt on to a 94-95 timing cover or the pulley would be badly out of alignment with the rest of the pulleys.

Fox body water pump wouldn't even come close to bolting up. On the SN car the engine is almost 3 inches shorter than the old fox setup in order to comfortably clear the angle of the hood. On our cars the pump impellar is sandwiched between the pump housing and the timing cover. On the fox it is an enclosed unit. Any car that has a serpentine belt is a reverse rotation water pump, and I think the Mustang has had a Serpentine belt since 86.' Might have been a little earlier, but I know it's somewhere around there.
