Just wondering if anyone has done this and what they used to do it? Thanx alot. I am looking for a temp fix for my red stuff as Im going to black and dont have tghe $$ right now for new carpet or seats

I just dyed my headliner as my parts car came with a non-sunroof headliner.

I forget what I used but it was just some interior dye i got from Pep Boys.

I can't comment on durability because nothing ever touches the headliner so it's tough to wear off.

Actually, i have nothing useful to contribute, so why the hell did i bother posting?

My dad tried to dye his carpet in hiss livingroom with some stuff he bought from wallmart and it turned out ok except the sprayer he was using was leaking and didnt know about it untill it was too late. you could see the spots were it leaked alot. but anyways i was thinking about buying that same carpet dye for my car too but in back when it gets warmer out.
I dont think this is very usefull either i dont know why i posted either lol

ttt for more people....I seen some dye that was supose to work on carpet it said, but I dont know how, just wanted to see if more people tryed it or not

I have dyed the seats and plastic trim in my son's stang....Dupli-Color Vinyl/Fabric Dye available at Auto-Zone. The plastic trim pieces are holding up perfect, couldn't ask for better. The fabric, however, is another story. It seems the driver's seat is fading back like it was, Of course it being the most used seat, it will wear quicker so I'm soon the others will soon follow. I haven't tried the caret yet, but I assume the carpet will yield the same results as the seats.

I have dyed vinyl seats before using SEM products and they came out great and lasted a long time. I tried to dye fabric seats and the color was fine but the seats were sort of crusty feeling - I tried brushing them but that did not help.

I've got a almost COMPLETE black interior from a 91 hatchback car, the piece that goes on the bottom of the hatch is missing, other than that it's all there. The drivers seat has a the normal worn place on it from getting in and out. It all has cleaned up great, what's would this be worth?

I say go for it. I have a all black interior also and the seats really need some color. They are faded and stained from soda, ice cream or whatever was spilled on them by the previous owner. They aren't real bad but they do make a otherwise spotless interior look like crap.

Honestly man, just get some seat covers until you can afford the seats. If you dye, be sure to buy dye with a flex agent in it. I've successfully dyed parts and had it looking pro, but stuff like seats, door panels, and high traffic areas are no places to have dye, as it usually wears quickly. IMO, an interior that "looks" dyed looks like ass, and looks mickey mouse as all hell. you don't want a mostly black seat with red chips showing through.

Save up a $100 and do the carpet the right way. Get some used takeoff mustang black carpet. I got some near mint oem 91 hatch carpet sent to my door for $100 shipped. It's much easier than the repro stuff because it installs in minutes with no cutting. Do this swap right, save until you are ready.

seat covers until you can afford new seats. I tried dying an old headliner with the stuff from autozone and came out like total a $ $ . Anyway good luck, glad I have black interiors in my mustangs so I don't have to dye them.

Dude, That wasn't ice cream.


Anyway I wouldn't be comfortable dying my seats and then sitting in them wearing something white. I would dye everything else and save up for some black seats.
