Have a good one!

Just thought I'd say "have a good one" to all of the the cool one's on here. I was warned by a few buddies to not go on forums in my spare time to help people. I can see why now. There are a couple of guys on here that with their 2 or 3 cars, have extensively more experience with engines, dynoing, tuning, and with cars in general than I have, (at least in their minds anyway :rlaugh:), so I'll go crawl back to my little hole in fantastyland and continue to do what I have done for decades... building bad to the bone engines & cars that place in magazines, win shows, and set class and track records around the world. I guess not as bad to the bone as some of these guys' engines & cars though....:rlaugh: The next time we make a 6 or 7 second pass in one of our race cars, or peel off an EASY 10 second pass in one of our FULL street trim cars, I'll think about their expertise in heads, carbs, etc. and try to remember that it's all a figment of my imagination and lack of knowledge.

give these guys some time to get to know you. they rag on you, but that is their way of getting to know what you know. it happened to me here also. hang around keep posting and dont take it personal. there was a guy named mikethebike who was a true poser, kept dropping names like he knew who was who and what was what. Dhearne and hack, and a couple of others jumped on him, and he fell apart and left. good riddance to him. you do however have a real understanding, and as long as you stick to your guns, you will be fine here.

the forums

I also have had my nards busted on here and other sites,,at first it bugged me ,but as the other guy said its normal,,.when i first started searching,i was told about this site as the best to view,i have learned something everyday,,have passed on my 2cents,,you being a mechanic should know that every problem is different, and some are the same...the information is good and bad,i have seen posts that were mis-leading,and stickys with mistakes..we are just a bunch of car nuts from all over trying to help and learn...WHERE ELSE CAN YOU GET FREE INFORMATION

I agree with the next quoted post, but I'll expound on that after it...

rbohm makes a very good point. If you have the knowledge and ability, you'll fit right in. You only have 34 posts so far, and these guys are still trying to get a feel for your level of expertise. There's some pretty smart guys in here, and they might all have differing opinions, but that's what makes it great to be here. The mixture of different opinions typically all ends at the same destination, but might take 100 paths to the finish line. Stick around and give it another shot, you might just change your mind. And don't forget that you can always PM any staff member if you have any questions, or concerns. That's what we're here for. :nice:

As others have said, a lot of guys on this board have been doing their thing, their way on these cars for a logn time and have had success. Not that there aren't other (or perhaps better) ways to do it, but what they do works and they have strong opinions about it.

Don't take it personally. I got a lot of good advice off your site and its good to have guys who know what they're talking about (and you clearly do) around.

Then again, if you can't take the heat this message board (and this message board is pretty easygoing as far as some I frequent go), then maybe it isn't a good use of your time

Arron,

I've promoted you more than once on this forum. You built the engine in my avatar, which I now see at the top of your website!

It's truly "Bad Ass!".

Best advice is to offer your opinion and let the comments fall where they might. Responses on both sides should be based on facts and experience and leave the personal stuff out. As has been said, most of our members don't know you and you don't know them. It's not personal. Also, it never helps to toot your own horn too loudly. At least not at first.

Brad

Aaron,

from what I've seen of your posts so far and reading your tech info on your website, you do have a wealth of knowlegde and I welcome you to the the forums.

Don't let a few people and there comments drive you away. Just remember, communication is 20% what you say and 80% how you say it. Online there is not really that whole how you say it (with tones, body language, ect) so take everything said with a grain of salt.

you can't be leaving only after 34 posts :nono:

i was rather impressed by your knowledgeable and easy to understand posts...

don't be discouraged, there are some who no matter what you say will be set in their ways, just say what you know, and the readers will sort it out, believe me ;)

I'm not sure what to say here. I try to be friendly to all, but I also have trouble ignoring totally false statements. I don't care whether the statement is made by an "expert" or not. I'm no expert on engines, but there are some things I know to be true.

My opinions are also colored by my experience in the last couple years with a guy named Ty Linstrom (I may not have the name exactly right). I think he had a company named TLI racing some place in Texas. He was arrested for taking people's money and not performing the services that were purchased. I'm not accusing you of anything, but I am cautious now around "experts" who (1) post on the internet, (2) know it all and (3) just happen to have a business that they are promoting.

I think you should stick around if you enjoy sharing your knowledge on the internet. I'd like to learn from your expertise. Don't expect me to shut up when I know better, though.

Also, IMO you should stop or at least cut to the minimum your self-promotion. I for one get suspicious when I see it. I like people who are self-assured, but loud mouthed boasting turns me off. I really see it as a character flaw.

As others have said, you have to be somewhat thick skinned posting on the internet because people aren't afraid to be honest here.

I don't claim to be the greatest mechanic, but I do enough to keep my toy running. I've left other forums also, but not because of disputes on mechanical or bench racing, but for things that really have no place on a car forum. I was gone from this forum for quite a long time, but I do enjoy being back. :nice:

I can honestly say that people with your knowledge, are hard to come by. I know virtually nothing about cars, but I have torn appart a few, rebuilt them and sold em'. The 'vert I am finishing up now would never have become the machine it is today had I not been able to tap into the knowledge resources of guys like you. The car will be going to my son on his 16th birthday, and I am proud that I did everything (ok except for the wicked transmission) to make it the car I know he will enjoy and be safe in.

I say take the pride, and put it in your back pocket. Like in martial arts... there is always someone better; but "your kung fu is strong" so teach.... and let the "know it alls" and thread jackers kiss your butt.:nice:

.
Hack, you've nailed my feelings exactly here. :nice: Just this thread he's started here further blowing his horn and threatening us to "take his toys and go home" makes me even more suspicious of this guy. I guess we'll just soldier on and try to live our lives without him.

Arron

I hope you change your mind and stay ! I for one appreciate someone with your credentials that is willing to help others out . ........................Internet forums take some getting used to !!! .......... sometimes things seem a lot harsher than they were meant .

Heck stick around ................... I'm getting ready to build a 347 for my 68 Mustang FB and I could use your advice !!!!! ........ 8^)

Yeah right, I see this all the time. Once they get the attention-whore train rolling full-speed they pop back in and surprise, they were reading all along even when they've claimed to go away. "Oooh thanks for kissing my ass and making me feel better, I guess I'll stay."

Prove me wrong by never posting again, OK?

i don't post here often so i will preface this statement by saying i have no prior knowledge to the situation that must have inspired this steaming pile of thread in the first place. i sually just keep the search function warm at night. but i wish threads like this one would just get deleted. this is the classic TECH forum after all and i have found no useful tech here other than a quick lesson in internet posturing that i kinda wish i could purge from my brain and then get my five minutes back.

and i am kinda with ron67fb here. especially considering that the original poster last logged in a little less than an hour ago according to his user profile. i guess my point is, wether the OP's knowledge is useful or not, it comes at a cost to the quality of this forum. stop feeding the trolls guys.

Although I have been on this site for many years and appreciate the wealth of knowledge from all of you I dont think anyone here is more important than another. I learned as a young mechanic in a business where if I didnt fix the eq. I didnt make any money that it is best to go to the source or to the experts to gain knowledge. After all anyone can be a parts changer and eventually happen upon the correct fix. That being said I distain negativity toward posters that are just starting out and have come to the "experts" here. I think we all need to chill out and appreciate this site as a very important tool and if we handle ourselves in a decent way a cool place to just hang out and help others in our hobby just learning the ropes. All of that being said, I have no idea what the issue is that started this but if we said something to upset you we are sorry. If on the other hand we are below your skil level and you cant stoop to ours....C'ya

I only know you from the Cleveland thread. In that thread on your first post you attempted to position yourself as an expert in Cleveland's but what you posted says otherwise. You may know Windsors like the back of your hand but you made some incorrect statements about Cleveland's displaying a lack of knowledge. That's ok, not everybody knows everything but instead of admitting maybe you were wrong you just went on the attack, and were still wrong.
Also, on the 335 and 385 forum when engine builders such as Jon Kaase post on there they don't display the attitude you do. Not even close.
