1st, its been a long time since ive been on here.. nice to see old faces still here.. on to my problem

I own a 98 Gt and i just had a new tranny put it. The vin on the new tranny says its a 2000 T-45.. problem im haven is that my speedo is way off.. say im in 3rd gear, idleing down my road... should be about 5mph.. it says 70.. anything above 45-50.. it pegs the speedo. I took it to ford, and i was told they cant do anything for it. any ideas? I went down to UPR since they arnt that far form me, and they said i should try a gauge cluster from a 2000, but i dont see how that would work

Any help would be great.. its killing my mileage

you mght want to check the Speedometer sensor that goes into the tranny, some are electronic, some are gears,

the speedcal plugs into a sensor in the engine bay and is for gear/tranny/wheel changes i beleive. usually you can find em for around 200, the reprogrammers that can do a little more for the obd sensor is 400.

You need to change over to mechanical speedo gear on the output shaft of the transmission. I had to do the samething when I put my old t45 out my 96 into my friends 00 GT. 99+ T45s use a metal gear that the output shaft sensor uses for speed. You need to take off the tailshaft housing, remove a clip that secures the gear, the gear will slide right off the output shaft, put the correct mechanical one back on, then reassemble.

Well your tranny guy is wrong, I did it to my friends mustang and it works perfect. It easier to just plug in the extend range speedcal but this modification would of cost you no money.

I had that feeling that he was. the speed-cal only took me about 15mins, but like u said, it wasn't free. Atlest this way, when i change to 3:73's or 4:10's, i'll already have the speed-cal to set the speedo right.. thanks for the info tho, i'll be sure to pass that on to my tranny guy

In your case it was smart because you are going to do a gear swap. My friend still had the stock gears in his mustang and with both transmissions on the floor it is a lot easier to take the tailshaft housings off and perform the swap. Since you already had the trans back in the car it would of been a lot harder to do the job and you probably would of paid over a $100 in labor to have it done.
