I am looking for any time saving tips for installing bbk long tube headers. I have access to a lift, but it is limited by when and only on Saturdays. I may end up doing this in the garage at home. I'm just curious if there is any procedural things to know if this it the case.

Drivers side should install easily, passengers side is a little trickier. I had to remove all intake tract assembly and remove motor mount bolt, then rock the motor to install the header. I also might have had to remove the starter, i dont remember. Good Luck.

I've heard that if you remove the starter you have a bit more clearance. Remove the motor mount bolt and jack the engine up a few inches, take the spark plugs out too so you don't break em off the porcelin. I've seen people remove the valve cover for more clearance, I've never had to myself but it may help a bit.

Did you have to ditch the smog stuff when you installed the LT's?

Get everything out of your was such as intake hoses, steering shaft moved to the side, A/P hoses. I didn't remove my starter, but may need to if you still have the smog hoses from the back of the heads, not sure, I removed mine before but could imagain them getting in the way. Remove the motormount bolts, jack up the motor as much as possible.

I finally got a chance to install the headers last weekend, make an attempt rather. I removed the steering shaft and the driverside fell in. The passenger side on the other hand fell in, but I had to dimple in a 3-4 inch area just to gain 1/4 inch clearance between the header and the subframe/crossmemeber.
I travel for a living so I won't be able to work on it again till this weekend.
Has anyone else ran across this?
