Have horrible squeal at start up after heads and intake?

Just got finished putting on my gt40-x303 heads along with Cobra 1.7 roller rockers, Accufab 70mm TB, Edelbrock water pump, and Cobra intake.

The Vortech is not on the car. Wanted to get this running good then going to add it back. Car has the 19lb injectors and factory mass air meter.

When I first started it up, started fine. (Primed oil system with drill before starting it up) I proceeded to adjust the timing (10 degrees) and the fuel pressure (39 psi Kirban). I had the car turned off and on a few times during this procedure. Then I go to turn in back on and I have this horrible squealing sound. It just does it for in instance as soon as it fires up, then it quits.

I dis-connected the coil wire and cranked it and no squeal.
It is a horrible sound right when it starts then it goes away.
Car idles real nice after it is started. Rockers are quite.

I am having an issue with an air pocket in the cooling system that I am trying to get out, but I can't see how this would cause it...

Anybody have any suggestions?

Fan/accessory belt slipping or not aligned correctly would be my first guess. Get any fluid on the pulleys or belt by accident?

Is it a belt squeal or something else?

Yes, you are right. I took the belt off and started up the car and no squeak.

When I spin the smog pump pulley there is a little squeak there. Could this thing have went out at the same time I did everything else? I guess anything is possible....

I probably did get some coolant on the belt when my raditor overflowed from an air pocket.

What is the best thing to do? Take the belt off and clean all the pullies and the belt and re-install it?

The pulley alignment looks good??

Take the belt off, wipe the pulleys down (if for nothing else than piece of mind).

I don't think it's the smog pump. Do the simple things first then move on. You already checked the aligment so it is probably the belt slipping a bit at initial start up.

Get some belt dressing from the local auto store and apply as directed. As long as the belt is in good shape (ie. no cracks, frays, etc.) you should be good to go.

It might even take car of itself eventually (when whatever substance is causing it to slip is gone) but the belt dressing will soak in to the belt to keep it from cracking and adds the right amount of friction so it doesn't slip on the pulleys.

Try this first since it is the easiest and least expensive route.

I will wipe them down then try the belt dressing. The belt is new. I am thinking since it didn't do it right away that it was from the coolant getting on the power steering pump pulley.

I was worried after all that work with the heads that I F'd something up, and it turns out to be a squeaking belt....

Tried the belt dressing and still have the squeal. I have added some pics.

Does anybody see anything that looks out of place.
I am almost thinking that my smog pump and alternator bracket needs to come to the front of the car more?

Try using a mechanics stethoscope on each accessory (be careful of moving parts and all that). If the squeak is occuring at that time, you should be able to tell which accessory or pulley is causing it.

Is it me or does it look like the edges of the belt are fraying? If so, that further points to misalignment (often it's one accessory that's ****-eyed to the others. It can happen with alternators for instance, if the ferrule in the lower mount cant slide freely).

The last thing I can think of is it being the belt itself. I've seen some real dogcrap belts lately. Swapping brands or style (going from rubber to the reduced-noise version can sometimes help).

Got the problem fixed, I hope.

After trying 1 spacer than 2 spacers behind the Vortech bracket, I still had the noise. I took the spacers out and went to Autozone and got a Goodyear belt. No more noise.

I have no idea why my brand new Gates belt was making noise, but it is gone with the Goodyear.
