Have you ever been pleasantly surprised by your Stang???

The reason I ask is that today I went to install my new triax shifter. Got the boot off, got the dust shields off and the shifter body is blue anodized. I think WTF ( an excited WTF at that) I wipe away the dust and what ho? A B&M Ripper Shifter. Ahhhh, no need to take this one off and put the other on, I just box it up and sell it to a buddy of mine for the price I paid for it. So while I was in there, I decided to go ahead and relocate the radio/AC. Almost done with the swap and it is so much easier to get CD's in and out. Oh and I also found a leak in my high pressure AC hose which let out all my refrigerant. Oh well that R-12 I stashed away back in the 90's will come in handy now.
Let us hear your little "presents" you have found in your car. This could get interesting........

I didnt find any rust on the upper half of the doors.....lol
Did find fifty cents when pulling out the interior....OK its not as good as A B&M piece, but it made me happy.

Hey believe me I am with you guys on wondering how I didn't know it was stock. I never had the boot off. And the guy I bought it off of (original owner) was meticulous with receipts, and telling me everything he had done to the car, guess he forgot this little goody.
This also explains why I always read the threads on stock shifters sucking so bad and wondered why people thought so badly of them, since mine was great (and I thought it was stock.) You can imagine my excitement of getting ready to improve the shifting of a tranny that I thought already shifted really well. Alas, no love, but I got a free shifter, and all is well with the world...........Except for my AC, and my radiator, and my rt rear axle......ahhhhhh fug it i will rejoice in my little victory today.

the first time i got under my car i noticed it had a driveshaft loop, then about a week later i was cleaning the interior and noticed a valve stem cap when i was vacuuming out the hatch, i went to pick it up and it was attatched!! so i looked underneath and to my suprise there was an airbag in the passenger rear spring.

I found out I had a pro 5.0 shifter when i took my boot off to retighten the shifter bolts that had worked themselves loose, i think any other suprises were things wrong with the car.

I bought my stang last fall. Early this year I didn't pass emissons visually, because there was an H-Pipe. Then a couple weeks ago, I took off my shifter boot and found that there was a Pro 5.0 shifter!

I had a ****ty cat back on my car when I first got it. I was like "OMFG, my exhaust sucks!". I was really surprised how quiet it was and how much it sucked.

It is nice! One time when I was changing my exhaust I looked at my undercarriage and realized how beautiful it was, not a single hair sized peice of rust, no dent and damn perfect, this pleased me! I guess thats what you get for not ever having a car in snow and south of Tenn. its whole life!

Does the B&M not have a spring loaded centering setup to help you get into third?? It sure feels like it does.

Wow... it sounds to me like you were just changing the shifter for the hell of it. You must be a real label man. LOL

Seriously though:

If I were going to change a part for the sake of performance then there would be a reason to change that part other than just being able to say "I have a brand xyz shifter". Two things come to mind:

A) You bought a new shifter because you were displeased with the performance of your old one (in which case you should have isntalled the new shifter regardless of what you found already installed).

B) You bought a new shifter just so you could say "I have an aftermarket shifter". LOL

I guess what I'm trying to get at is:

What was your motivation for purchasing the new part? What was it that you were attempting to improve on?

On the 89 GT that MyBad70 has I found welded in O2 sensors, a stuck shock, cut radio harness, twisted hood hinges, and cut springs. There was however, a morsel of cookie and a karate action figure in the back seat... his name is now "Bob"

I thought the new aftermarket shifter would be even better than my perceived stock shifter currently in the car. I was thinking this being that most folks require exacting performance from their Stang and that my "stock" shifter as good as it performed may be sub par.

Nope--no label man/crowd follower here-just heard nothing but good about the tri-ax so if you are gonna spend the money-get good stuff and no not just buying it for the hell of it-thought it could enhance the shifting performance experience from my "stock" shifter. Thanks for the bump though.

I bought my car with an AOD tranny that they said had recently been rebuilt but had issues.....after a day or two reviewing this website I learned it was the TV cable....$46 later I have a smooth shifting tranny!
