Head bolts vs head studs

Be concerned with dynamic compression than static compression. If you are running a bigger camshaft, you are going to want to get more static compression to make the engine run right. I would spend some time on the phone with both companies and discuss a very specific combination including the heads and cam you intend to run with the engine. They will be able to recommend an appropriate compression ratio.

If you aren't going to rev the engine over 6500 rpms, which you probably won't on a street car, the main support system is a waste of money. They don't increase the strength of the engine, they are designed to keep the mains from walking too much at high rpm.

The owner or one of the owners

of CHP is Mark and he posts on ... another site :D

I've seen a good bit of the things he has posted and it looks like he is
one of the good guys :nice:

His knowledge seems first rate
and
I've seen many say he has done business in a first rate way as well

Yeah. So i called CHP today and they recommended("basically told me") me a street fighter short block with flat top piston.

And they told me i should have gotten a performer RPM heads instead of regular performer heads blah blah blah...but they said it will do since i want to stay CARB legal.

They told me it will be around 10.4:1 compression or little less which i think it's still too high...I might just go dish top...But what do i know?!

As far as cam they told me go custom which they can offer for whopping $350(may i remind you i bought 4 different cam this year and never used any one of them since i keep buying the wrong ones for cheap. I had E cam, B cam, Steeda #19 cam, AFM b31 cam) I still have the #19 cam and others i sold on eBay.

Anyways...

Block will cost around $2200 and another $350 for custom cam and probably another $600 for tune, Another $200-300 for harmonic balancer...And probably i need to buy some other stuff that will pop up later...

I am just gonna buy the block for now and keep it in the garage until i save up some more cash to buy other related stuff

And yeah, I am not planning to rev the engine to 6500 RPM and i am not going to get too big of a cam either. Most people like the thumping sound of a cam but i am more into smooth idle that performs(stock cam :))...whatever that means :) thumping cam sound and convertible somehow doesn't go together in my head...hit me if i am wrong on this.

Well, Thanks for the help guys and i will take some photos of the new parts that i got couple days ago and post the process.

Later :)

OH! one more thing, So what kind of horse am i looking at here? after the 347 block? Like 300 flywheel hp? or around 330?(I always expect the worst) I have no clue. post some HP/TQ # if you have this kind of N/A set up, I am curious. Thanks

Several things to keep in mind :)

With a nice short block like that :nice:

You want the rest of the parts to be of the same caliber :)

That little #19 and the alphabet e cam ...

Well ... if that CHP 347 short block is a 357 magnum
then
Those cams would be a 22 :rlaugh:

About the compression

You most likely will have a cam that will bleed off a bit of it
due to overlap

That being said ... the compression is not as great as it would seem ;)

As for your hp Q :D

One rwhp (SAE) per ci would be ... not much of a challenge at all

I'll figure it out once i get to the shop, and ask them more questions. I told them i will be picking it up with a truck so don't bother packing it up and everything. I rather buy it now then later when it probably get more expensive...

They will probably try to sell me more related parts, But i just can't afford it right now. Spending $2500 is enough for least couple months. I spent about $5000 give or take on this car this year so i will give it a rest until next year.

I am basically let them custom grind me a cam. so it will all match. I guess i will be selling the cam i have locally and get some beer & snack money.

I think i will have to put up another $3000-4000(Upgraded transmission) then the car will be where i want to be and finally BE DONE with it. Other then little stuff here and there.

And guess what?! The this 5.0 cost me more to fix up then 4.6 My 4.6 already has heads and cams done. I should have went that route too. But i decided to do suspension first on this sucker...bleh...:nonono:

So if after everything is done...If i make 347 horsepower to the wheel i will be happy. 1hp per ci.

I was thinking about selling both of the cars couple months back. but if i sell it now. I won't get what i want and never will get the money back. and it beats buying a new car. It's just too expensive these days...
