I had installed new headlights about a month ago, The problem im having with is the connectos that go to the bulb. my old headlights used a 9004 bulb i think :(
and the new headlights take a 9007, I had to cut and modify the headlight panle behind the healdlights wich is fine. everything went together nicely. but when i got the headlamp kit they also gave me some 9004 to 9007 conversion wires. Its basicly the same connector but the ground wire is in a differnt spot so i can use my high and low beams. the other day my Right Front headlight kept going dim. I looked at the connector the clips onto the bulb and its melting it. so now i have a bad contact problem in the conversion wire, the left front is fine but its starting to do the same thing, melting the plastic in the middle. Im trying to find some new high quality connectors to replace the others that i think for made in malaysia or somthing. I tryied to put a 9004 bulb back in it but it wont fit into the new housing, only a 9007 fits and if i put my stock wiring on these bulbs the lights work but im forced to use the brights. any sugestions on what to do? what about that wight grease, will that absorb some of the heat?

oh yeah the projectors light up and work fine.

9004 and 9007's are the same bulb basically. They even use the same harness plug. Are you sure you have the bulb numbers correct?

Main difference is the 9004 uses a diffuser lens so the bulb is uncovered inside the headlight while the 9007 is designed for a clear lens with a shield covering the bulb so direct light doesn't emit. I think wattages are different.

But they share the same wiring harness.

What headlights are you running calling for a 9007?

Im using black 6pc headlights with the big headlamp and a projector lamp to the side. I tryed putting a 9004 bulb in this headlight housing and it wont fit. They look very mutch the same but the little Y slots below the bulb itself are positioned differntly from a 9004 and a 9007. the plug ins are the same but i did some looking and the ground wire for both bulbs are positioned in differnt locations. Thats why I had to use the 9007 conversion wires on my 9004 plugs. The conversion wires position the ground wire differntly at the end of the harness that plugs into a 9007 bulb. That makes my High and low beams work. If I just use my regular headlight plugs It will always leave the highbeams on.

I have the stock lens in my car with 9007 bulbs. You need to clips and file the small notch at the 6 o'clock position on the housing. Swap the wires and its done. Light output is awesome compared to the 9004's. I run silvanyia silverstars without issues.

bad grounds can cause issues with the bulbs burning out prematurely. The repair connectors are cheap and easy to replace. I bought an ebay relay'd harness for my 90 GMC and the lights are much brighter. It takes the load of the headlight switch and uses the stock harness to trigger the relays.
