Hey guys...I got down to my block and found out I blew my head gasket between my #4 and #7 cylinders. Now that I am cleaning the gaskets off while my heads are at the machine shop getting looked over and possibly resurfaced, I have this plug by one of my bolt holes. On my passenger side I have it but not on my driver side. I just need to know if it is suppose to be in the head or block. Here is a picture

Should be in the block, but it could technically go in either. It's just an alignment dowel.

Autozone has it, they keep it in the isle with the RTV. Search around or have them order it for you, it works really well.

You may have the plug still in the head on the drivers side. They stick. You can by the dowels at Autozone or Advanced. They can order if not in stock. Felpro makes them.
Item # ES70744 is around $10 for the set

pardon the hijack, but is it required to remove all the accessories to do a head swap, or can you leave the p/s and a/c in place?

You need to remove pretty much every accessory on the engine, especially if you're doing a cam swap, too.

Yeah you need to pull off the alternator/smog pump and bracket and also the powersteering and ac bracket. The only thing that stays on for the head swap is the waterpump and harmonic and crank pulley

So it would be a good time to do a smog delete too
