head unit install

hello i got a 2 piece stock system deck by the shifter and tabe am/fm above it and i bough a new head unit for it to replace them both and i think ive 'Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me'ed somehitng up or atleast got the wronge wireing harness. I was wondering if anyone knew what harness to get for it, it a 2000 but i set it up all nice wiht connectors adn the conncetion look beutiful till i relizize where are my speakers gnna connect to
help please

I got a Ford harness from Circuit City. I dunno if the newer ones have the same connectors as mine tho.

You should be able to get the correct harness form circuit city.... just make sure you specify the year..... I seem to remember there being 2 harnesses back there, one for power and illumination and stuff, and a seperate one for the speakers.... Does anyone else remember this? I've done so many head unit installs I can't remember whats in my own car....

First I would check with circuit city or best buy they will be able to get you the correct harness. If you dont have the correct one for your car you might not be able to utilize the factory amplifier in the car. Typically there are two harnesses, one specifically for the amplifier. check with your local best buy or circuit city or even possibly the stereo shop. Plus if you remove the factory am/fm radio and put in just a cd player you might wanna buy a plug for the empty location, it looks alot better than the wires hangin out.

Screw Circuit Sh.itty, (sorry mods done in the name of humor) go to a car audio place that actulaly KNOWS something about the car, or call up crutchfield.

And lexman----what is this 'plug for the empty location' of which you speak? I'll be running into this myself when I rip every lower-than-audiovox-quality piece of Ford equipment out of my car, and definitely want something to put in place of the current stand-alone cd player. I was hoping someone had a recessed blank.....maybe even w/a cover (see Honda/Acura products)....that way I'd have a couple more square inches of storage space (double the size of the glovebox )

for the lower place where the cd player was you can go to any auto shop and get a little pocket that basically holds 3 cd's. It's 100% useless (I put one on my mom's 02 Rav4 when I put a CD player in it, was a Double-din) but it will work there also. You could also try putting the XM Modulator there XM kicks My friend did that on his 96

Does any aftermarket brand make a head unit with JUST a tuner? Then I could buy a stand-alone CD player and hook it up like it is now, only with better equipment......

Kenwood used to make a CD player that didn't have a tuner in it. It was basically a CD player that was controlled by another Kenwood head unit the same way the head unit would control a CD changer. I had that setup in my 98 for a while.... Tuner/Tape head unit w/ a seperate CD player. I think they are making one now that is just a Tuner that will control a changer, check their website....
