Head unit problems

Hey guys, i bought my mustang a couple months ago and it had an after market alpine head unit and new speakers installed. Last week out of no where the head unit stop getting power. None of the lights on the face plate come on and there is no sound coming from the speakers. Like once or twice i could hear the cd drive spinning when i took the in line fuse out and put it back in. I replaced both the fuse in the fuse box and the in line fuse to make sure they werent the problem. My only idea is to go to the store buy a new head unit and see if the problem goes away. Anyone have any ideas of how to fix it if its not the head unit itself. Thanks

What year is the car? If its 92-93 and its ran through the factory amp, that may be your problem.

Its a 90 but it did rain several days before that.

Get out the old Test light and start checking things sounds like you could have either a problem with the constant power the accessorie power or the ground. The gourd is unlikely because even if your ground comes off the deck will work as long as your antenna is pluged in... lol

The only problem is that i dont have the slightest idea of what i am doing. Any suggestions for where i can take it to have it looked at. Would a normal auto shop be able to look at it.

take it where you got it. if they installed it, i would make fuss about it. they might even slap a new one in there for you. thats what i did. they hooked up my speakers from speakers wrong (stockers). they said they were blown so they took them out and 'lost' them. i ended up getting a new pair of speakers .

Well actually i was hoping that it was going to be something easy that i could check if someone could point me in the right direction. I cant take it to where i got it because when i bought the car it was in there and the guy had no receipts or anything like that.

it is take a test light groung it out with the stero harness connected test the yellow wire with the key off see if it has power the turn the key on test the red if they both have power then you have a bad ground
