Hey guys i need some help... on my passenger side header.. the front header bolt keeps on backin out. How do i stop it from backin out all the time?

Are you using the bolts that came with your BBK headers? If so, they're probably gonna continue to back out. I would say loc-tite, but that's a terrible idea if you ever need to take them back off. Try some Stage 8 locking bolts from summit or the like.

i used permatex high strength threadlocker red item#27100 on my header bolts and torqued to 26-32ft.lbs. threadlocker is available at any parts store. i installed headers 8 mos. ago and have not had any problems.

I dont recommend the threadlock because eventually you may have to remove the headers. I just use regular bolts and have never had a problem. I torque them about as tight as I can with the little 7/16" wrench. Stage 8 bolts do work really well from what I hear.

Im not sure how the loctite would hold up...that "high temp" stuff is only good to 450* and i would think the headers/heads would get hotter than that since you need a much higher paint for headers than 450*. It could work...but im thinking all the heat would weaken it.

Have you tried a lock washer? Only cost a couple cents...probably will do the trick.

They do make a high temp thread locker. If you have aluminum heads don't use it though. With irons the blue one will work and it can be removed later.

i bought the stage8 locking header bolts and havnt had anyproblems with backing out, and i havnt even put the little locks they come with on yet (around 1200 miles so far)

Before you go with thread lock, try some different bolts. For example, my BBK LT headers came with 3/4 inch bolts. They didn't hold. So I got 1" Breslin locking bolts, and they have never loosened out.

Summit Racing has em. They are a little different than Stage 8 locking bolts, in that there is an allen wrenched screw running through the middle. YOu first tighten the bolt, then tighten the allen screw, which expands the bolt and locks it in place. They are easier (from what I hear) than Stage 8.

But think about this. One of my bolts, I couldn't reach the allen wrench screw, so i just tightened the bolt down. the allen screw eventually fell out. But the bolt stayed in. I attribute that solely to the fact that it is a 1 inch bolt. So you might just be fine with 1 inch bolts. Something to think about.

Thread lock in aluminum (or any kind of) heads makes me nervous.

Thats the link i posted...and according to loctite its only 450*. Exhaust temps go way beyond that.

Stage 8 bolts, std Felpro gasket, coat both sides with high temp copper RTV. Retighten after a week.

Here's what i did, i got some allen head bolts from work and put lock washer's and blue lock tight on them no problems yet peace

As far as i remember the only locktight that ISNT removeable is the green i beleive! I used blue and had to take them off when i changed headers so yes you can get it out! JUST DONT USE THE GREEN STUFF!!!!!!!!!! peace

I have no idea where I originally picked this one up from, but, I wrap the bolts with the standard old white teflon pipe tape you use for plumbing/pipe fittings. Has always been easy to undo the bolts at a later date if I needed to and in 20+ years I've never had a header bolt come loose. May just be luck, but it's worked for me...........

I would think that teflon tape (or any lubricant) would have an impact on how the bolt takes its torque load (think head bolts). So as long as it works, more power to ya. But it would make me a bit nervous.
