I bought a set of BBK equal length headers from CJ Pony parts here in PA and when I asked about installation they quoted me a price of $400 or 8 hours @ $50 an hour Does it really take that long??? I was going to do it myself but they claim it's a PITA.

Just do it yourself. That price is rediculous. It's always nice learning how to do things yourself...even if it takes longer.

Oh and BTW, it didn't even take 8 hours to do my long tubes and that was the first time I had done anything like that.

1. unhook H-Pipe (10-15 min.)
2. unscrew header bolts both sides and remove (1 hour.)
3. Screw in header bolts both sides w/gaskets (1 hour.)
4. Enjoy beer (30 min.)
5. Connect H-pipe (10-15 min)

LMFAO you forgo 30 minute worth the swearing and cig smoking while cleaning blood up from busted knuckles.

Thanks guys...I think i'll try it myself. they wanted $700 for a head swap

im not going to lie, the first time i went at the headers, i was going to break someones neck open! itll piss you off. something ALWAYS goes wrong. id say a good 4 hours for your first time.

If you can have some torches handy it'll make things much easier....if the stuff has never been removed, it can be a pain...The heat makes things come apart easy...

The smog tube can be a mother to, it crimps and can be a pain...just hacksaw the freaking thing off if need be...reconnect with some hi-temp hose..

Have some long extensions and a swivel.. they make getting at the header nuts much easier...

Some Fel-pro 1415 gaskets and some stg 8 lockers and you should be done with those connections...

400.00...screw that...

Well the stock manifolds were off about 2 years ago, and the smog tube is gone since I have an off road H pipe. looks like i'll be under the hood Sat morning. Thanks guys

Definately do it yourself! It can be a major PITA at times, but in the end it is very worth it and a sense of pride comes with it knowing you put sweat and man hours into your car Be prepared for trouble when putting the drivers side on, we finally unbolted the steering linkage and that did it, but with the MAC eq its a close fit! Good luck!!

do it yourself!....although i will tell your = lengths are a major PITA....i know with my Bassanis the passenger side WOULD NOT go without unbolting a few motor mounts and jacking the motor up from under neath about an inch or so....

of course!! we were under the car, we tried all angles trust me. still wouldnt fit, lol.

yeah, idk about unequal shortys but equal lengths wont fit without unbolting the driveshaft on the driver's side...and like i said, the passenger side wouldnt not fit without unbolting some mounts and jacking up the motor...

the previous owner of mine installed bbk equals himself and he screwed it up. he didn't move the ac tube away and it melted. i still have no ac. also, he stripped one bolt and two other bolts kept coming loose, but my mechanic fixed all that when he did the headswap.

i'm hoping to start doing my own work this summer ... it is very nice to save the money and the feeling of doing it myself is priceless.

ummm it took my dad 2 days to put my first set of headers on and it only took me about 3hrs to put my other ones on.

OOPS...sorry, made a mistake...they are UNequal length headers. BBK unequal length headers, which CJ's told me are a better fit than MAC's

I dont doubt it, unequal should be much more plesant to install!

My Bassani = lengths were not hard to put in at all. I had to remove them for my head gasket install and they took me less than an hour for both sides. The hardest part was turning each bolt like 20 1/4 turns b/c there is no room. Luckily I was able to install them back on the heads before putting the heads back on (I love ARP ) and they slide right back into place with no clearance problems.

Yeah, I installed my own BBK CC E/L headers. Just like is mentioned above. Driver's side go in from underneath and disconnect the steering shaft. BTW the bolt has to come all the way out. Passenger's side unbolt motor mount on that side and lift motor about 2-3" and go in from the top. The instructions don't mention lifting the motor

I love my BBK headers The fit is good. No need for shorter spark plugs and the spark plug wire boots are far enough away that they don't get burned

yeah, try em when the motor is all put together.... on the passenger side, its actually the stock valve cover that gets in the way....
