i have been looking at getting full length headers, i currently have the bbk off road x and was wondering if i will have to purchase the bbk long tubes to have a perfect fit? i have been looking around for a couple days now and cant find the bbk for under $400. i have seen mac and pacesetter full length headers quite a bit cheaper but if i go with one of those will i run into problems with fitting them to my x pipe? anyone have a setup like this?

If you have stock manifolds right now with the x-pipe, long tubes aren't going to work with that x-pipe you will have to go with shorty's or get a new x-pipe

yup, I went with SLP LTs and the SLP short o/r x-pipe and they fit great. So I'm sure if you did a brand combo like that you'll be good to go.

Shorties arent good for nearly as much as LT's. I would guess shorties are good for maybe 5 rwhp. Where at LT's are good for around 15 rwhp. Yes u can use any brand of shorties to go with your X-pipe. I would imagine if you used BBK shorties it would work the best, but as far as I know u can use any shortie header and it should work with your X-pipe.

I can never understand the mid-pipe dilemma with the switch to long tubes. People have no troubles dropping $350-$600 on LT headers, but they won't pony up a measly $100 for the proper mid-pipe. Settling for shorties because you’ve got to replace the mid-pipe too, when long tube headers are what's on your mind is retarded. If money is so tight, just take it to your local exhaust shop and give the guy $50 to shorten your mid-pipe to fit the new headers…..Problem solved.

Yea any will work, I think bbk makes some if you wana stay with that company i think jba makes some too. There are other companies its your choice. Really shorties or long tubes you won't see a big difference. Maybe 5 or 10 hp nothing that you would feel probobly only see on the dyno.

Ummm LT's are one of the best bolt-on mods u can do. You will see and feel a difference if u do LT's.

Ehhh, maybe with full exhaust work, but not much with just LT's alone. The headers might net you somewhere in the 8-12 rwhp range (depending on the year of the car).

It took SLP Long-Tubes, Catted X-pipe and loud mouth exhaust to yank 22rwhp and 13lbs/ft of torque on a stock '97GT. (MM&FF June 04) SLP stated that it could make another 8hp and another 10lbs/ft of torque on a '99-up GT. So it's really the benefit of a full exhaust system that's gonna give you any real power, not one component alone. And at $1,600.00 for the set up, I couldn’t consider it a real bargain, either.

I know I felt a big difference with my full exhaust setup, so much that I couldn't keep traction past 4000 RPMs on my stock gatorbacks when it's cold outside. I love it. and with the full exhaust and the steeda cai and accufab 75mm tb and plenum I put down 270 rwhp

Thats what im saying and if he does a full exhaust with shorties there isn't gona be a big difference between having shorties or long tubes

I dont agree either, look at the guys above mods then look at my mods. Pretty much the only difference is he has the TB/plenum and LT's and I've got shorties. I'm at 243 rwhp hes at 270 rwhp. Obvioulsy different dyno's are going to give you differnt results but almosta 30 rwhp difference, I think the LT's are having something to do with that.

i'd say LT's with a complete exhaust set-up. ive also heard, mostly from reading these forums, that shorties on a 4.6 arent much better than the stock manifolds, but thats just what ive read several times. its your car, your call. LT's definitely put a dent in the wallet

Don't get me wront.....the $1,600 was for the entire SLP exhaust....not just the headers. As for going cheaper than BBK.....it's going to be tough to beat. They're one of the cheapest as it is. You might try the Mac stuff, but beyond that you're going to seriously start sacraficing quality going with any lesser company to save a few bucks. It all depends on what you're willing to spend. My headers (Kooks) were Jet Hot coated LT's, with gaskets, new O2 sensors and hardware and ran me just over $1,300.00 (Canadian) but I wanted the best, so spending the money was worth it for me.

Mac's LT H-pipe goes for 169.99. But really.....I'd just have one bent up at the local exhaust shop for $100.00. It's gonna flow and sound every bit as well. You just don't get the fancy coating and the Mac name stamped on it. I had my Bassani X-pipe made locally. I just bought the crossover on Ebay and had the rest made. Cost me $150.00 Canadian. Beats twice the price for a real Bassani....even if mine isn't all stainless steel.
