Headers Burnt Clutch Cable

I was breaking in my new clutch by speeding and suddenly I was unable to shift into gears. I noticed my clutch cable was burnt from the headers I had recently installed. Prior to my cable buring up I did attempt to move the cable away from the headers.
Does anyone have any suggestions before I install a new cable in and is it easy? I am using Mac Shorty headers and the tubing is fat and wide which is very close to the fender wall.

i think Haz Mat is goin through that same deal right now (he has long tubes, IIRC). do what you can with routing and try some wrapping if all else fails.

I had that once with equal length Hookers. I wrapped the cable with header wrap and foil tape where it passes by the header.

well sadly mine didnt actually "burn" but im not sure if the heat had anything to do with mine. ive been just staring at mine cable thats in the car and the only possible thing i can think of is faulty product and/or the routing wasnt the best causing extra, unneeded pressure on the housing itself so the wire would rub on the inside and literally pull the inside housing out.


did yours snap or did just the housing burn??

Actually the cable melted to the point were I could not shift into gears. There is still some cabling left thats attached but it will have to be replaced. My tubing is very wide so I am not sure what to do once I replace it again to prevent this from happening.
Any special cables out there that you know of?

What've you got a big block with 2" headers?? Tell us about your setup. That'd make our attempts to help you out a little more productive.
There's probably about 2-3 companies in the US that make clutch cables and they sell them to every little company that markets them as their own.

well i have longtubes my my clutch cable didnt touch header being so low. you should be able to place the cable so it doesnt touch the tubing. i had mine as "loose" as possible but yet for some reason it seems to be rubbing or something but so that it breaks the housing. maybe you should try to and reroute the cable??

I think what I need is a heat shield and today I went to go and look at a BBK
clutch cable kit but it was hella expensive. I think Ebay will do for now.
I took some pictures to show what damage the headers done to the cable so you can see what I am talking about.
Is it easy to install a cable?
