I just bought a 98 GT and I would like to add Headers and an exhaust but I'm confused as hell. I was going to purchase the magnaflow catback exhaust but if I bought headers would I need to buy something else with the headers ? Like an H-pipe ?

I'm not sure what I need and don't want to get the wrong thing b/c this is a lot of money to be spending on something you're unsure of.

aslo if you know of a cheap place to purchase these parts let me know.

If you are going to do headers you need to do Longtube headers. Mac, BBK, Bassaini, and JBA are a few companies that make LTs. What ever brand you buy you will want to buy a matching mid-pipe. As for catback any brand will match up to your mid.

I went with JBA LTs and already had a Magnaflow OR X pipe and catback. I just modified my X pipe to fit the Headers instead of buying another mid pipe.

JBA and Bassani are probably the best quality but a lot of guys use MAC and BBK too.

you do not NEED to do long tubes....you dont even really have to do headers. they are a pain in the ass and give minimal gains in our cars unless you have a supercharger. save yourself the time and money and just get a good midpipe that fits to your stock manifolds and get the magnaflow cat-back. it's what i have and it is fantastic!!

Headers really AREN'T that bad if you take your time and you have some general automotive knowledge. Our cars could use all the help they can get in the bolt-on performance department. Longtubes are obviously the ONLY way to go. Do not waste your hard earned cheddar on shorties. Then find you a "shorty" style mid-pipe and the magnaflow catback will be fine

+1 on LT. They usually sell them with matching mid-pipe, but you can always buy other brand of shorty mid-pipe and hope it fits or weld it in. For cat-back, any brand would do.

I did my full exhaust installation old school with jack stands on the drive-way in 30 degree F weather which took 3 days. Good times..
