headers worth it?

Since you are going offroad already, are you stuck on shorties or would you want long tubes? Also, what are your future plans for mods?

I agree, If it's in your budget then go long tubes being you're re doing the entire exhaust.

i say with stock heads no. my friends car aod, 373 gear, and bolt ons car ran a 13.42. he did the 1 5/8 headers and the car slowed down 13.60-13.70s. we put the stock headers back on and it ran 13.40s again

To get more power with header change, you need to "retune" if you guys played with the timing I'm sure you would've made more power.

we did the timing, f/p. we did not change the headers till he did the heads, cam, intake, inj, etc.

most lt hang lower but u just have to watch for holes and another things. i would save your money till u get heads then do lt headers.

Doing LTs around an AOD can be tight.

I'd agree about not needing them with the stock top end and no power adder.

Not worth the money for a stock motor IMO. Exhaust in general on a stock motor typically yeilds little gain... unless your cats are clogged or something. Either way long tubes are the way to go if you don't have to deal with emissions and speed bumps.

Will headers really hurt performance on a stock engine? I have my engine out now, and am rebuilding it basically stock (except for ARP hardware), and I have a set of Ford Racing stainless headers I have had coated (when I thought I was going to put in a built motor, which I am now going to use for another project.)
I am currently torn between using stock headers and the aftermarket ones.....since I have already spent the $$...any reason not to use the aftermarket ones?
