will the exhaust off a stock 5.0 mustang bolt up to an old head. I have a 71 with a 302.
I have set of headers and the need for a beter exhaust. i was thinkin bolt up those headers, geting some j bends and makin my own 2 1/4 dual exhaust. any one have a better idea on pipe size?

Unless you have the GTP heads, all ford small blocks have the same bolt pattern, and so will the stock exhaust manifolds will bolt up.
It may not fit well with your application, but the all will bolt up.
What other mods have you done to the motor, if any?
Long tubes and 2 1/4 are good for an un modified, or lightly built motor.

I don't think the 5.0 Mustang headers will fit in a classic chassis

That's right. The outlet will dump right at the steeering box. And even if they did fit, the pinched tubing and awkward welding doesn't help efficient flow. They are closer to to tubular "manifold" than header and are one of the first replacements most would do in a stock 5.0L when trying to up the power (after throttle body and injector size increase). There are much better flowing headers out there made specifically for your Mustang.

He does say he has a 71 i think, will that help him? Those things engine bays are pretty cavernous, but I suppose that doesn't mean the steering box is in a different position.

OK, Missed the "71" part, the 5.0 headers might fit in those.
