1 5/8, and 1 3/4....what's the difference and which size do I need to go with?

The difference is 1/8" of diameter.

What are your supporting mods? If stock or near stock, 1 5/8" is plenty on a 302

completely stock motor and you are installing headers? waste of time and money unless you want practice removing parts

They do look better than the stock ones. Just get the ceramic coating

well a post back, I was told it's a waste of time...so I won't put in the intake, and not buy the headers

Well, it depends, the right intake with supporting parts along with headers will net a few ponies, the problems come from misinformation, mismatched parts and the mindset of bigger is better.
What are your goals for the car?

just a little more power...that's all...thought an intake and headers would be ok...buddy told me do the intake, new headers and an X pipe

I'd do the intake and x pipe, buy with stock heads and cam the oem headers are fine.

Now if you were changing out the heads and cam, go for it.

The point is rather than headers right now, 3.73s would be a better alternative
