Whats up guys and gal(s),

I'm heading out to Beijing for a couple weeks for business. My company has been hired as a technical adviser for the Beijing branch of Morgan Stanley. We'll be out there inspecting some wind farms and writing Assett Assessments.

I was wondering if anyone here has been to China recently, Beijing specifically, and has any advice. I'm familiar with business card ettitquette but other then that I have no idea what to expect.

thanks,

Adam

Since you will be in Beijing, you’ll want to go visit Tiananmen Square and, if time permits, tour the Forbidden City. While in Beijing, you must visit the Qianmen Quanjude Roast Duck Restaurant . . . They cut it up at tableside. That Roast Duck and a couple bottles of Tsing Tao Beer . . . almost worth the 15 hour flight to get there!
If you get some time off, make sure you go to visit the Great Wall at Badaling. Easy to get there by car or bus . . . most hotels can arrange a driver for you. It is the best preserved section of the wall and it has been restored to the same condition as it was during the Ming Dynasty (1365-1644). Remember to take lots of pictures. Wear comfortable shoes if you plan to walk the wall . . . When you start to walk it, take the uphill difficult way . . . you will be rewarded with the best panoramic photos.
As for customs . . . forget it . . . We are barbarians and they know and accept it. Unless you do something that is REALLY embarrassing, nobody will say anything. Just don’t use a toothpick without covering your mouth while you are digging . . . and they think we are strange . . .

Don't drop the soap

I will make sure to avoid prison rape. Of course, one is much more likely to get raped in parts of South Carolina as opposed to Beijing, one of the most modern cities in the world and a cradle of Eastern civilization. But hey, chicks that chew tobacco have that special something about them.

Boo boo thanks for the advice! I will be working 12 days straight as it is expensive to have me out there. I am looking for more of things like that tooth pick tip to avoid social awkwardness. An example is when I went to Dubai it was extremely rude to show the bottom of your foot to someone so men shouldn't cross their legs. Things like that.

thanks,

Adam
