Headlight switch problems

So, a few months ago, I had a problem turning on my headlights/ driving lights, what would happen is that when I go to turn on my driving lights, nothing would happen, when I pull it to turn on my headlights, they turn on, but my corners/ taillights are not on. I'd play with it awhile just tapping on the switch and eventually I'd get it to work. I tore it apart and found out that the harness side connector is getting too hot(melting in some spots). I put a new switch on it hoping it would solve my problem.
Now the problem is back. I can't get the pigtail from Ford, is there another way of solving this problem. Many thanks guys!:SNSign:

you need a new harness connector.try www.50resto.com.if not there,try your local junkyard.

ITs the switch, Iam on my third switch. try a different brand switch.

So, even though the harness connector plastic piece is sorta melted, the switch should do the trick? I guess I could try that.

Replace the connector. It's a common issue. Some guys have used a Bronco connector in a pinch.

What year Broncos are compatible? Is there any write up anywhere? I tried looking a little bit, no luck yet.

Sorry for such a long reply but this explains it all. If you have fog lights the problem with the headlight switch is that the fog lights are wired through the low beam headlight circuit. The problem with this is that when you leave the fog lights on all the time and just turn them on with the headlights you are actually overloading the headlight switch, which eventually burns out the contacts inside the switch, causing it to over heat over time. The way I've fix all three of my cars (only applies to hard top cars) Is to replace the headlight switch, and pigtail (my local ford dealer carries the pigtail for 10 bucks), pull the center consoule swith the red power wire going to the fog light switch, with the purple power wire going to the convertible top wiring harness. Doing this isolates the fog light from the headlight so your not drawing all that power through the headlight switch. Also you can now turn the fog lights on at any time as long as the car is turned on. For people with convertibles the only good fix is to replace the switch and pig tail, and just be sure to actually use the fog light switch like it was ment to be used not left on all the time.

Im on my third light switch but they have all been on different cars. Only had to replace them once on each car. After i wire the fog lights through the convertible top wiring I never had the problem again. I'll get some pictures up of the wiring you have to do. I actually had to do this about a week ago to a 95 GT i bought a couple of months ago.

Heres a link that has a couple of different ways to rewire the fog light but only on of the ways actually isolates the fog lights from the headlights. Topless95- Yeah, I just saw those, but unfortunately, I had to replace the switch tonight as it didn't work AT ALL. Thanks though. the light just didn't want to turn on the same time anymore and it was dark so, no choice.

Demon40- Thanks, now I am seriously looking into doing that mod. I am a guilty party for just leaving the fogs on all the time the lights are on, so I guess I was just asking for it to fail. But to defend myself, i just use my fogs all the time, cuz the darn headlights are just to dull, a problem which I will in the near future solve with an HID conversion I just got. Thanks for the light brother!

Bosko50- YES, that is exactly how mine looks like but I think a little worse- I just ordered my pigtail, I don't want my pony ending up being a ball of fire.

This was true on fox III's but on 94-95's, there is a factory fog light relay. The draw of said relay is about 200 mA (0.2 amps).
