Ok so I am rebuilding my 5.0 as in previous posts and found out that my heads were cracked. What heads on a budget (like I could possibly get a set of stockers either 289, E7 or 351w heads for like 50.00 to 150.00) would be better for me to get? Also I am wanting to put a set of roller rockers on the heads and I am looking at a set of 1.6-1.7 rollers from jegs ( the split set) or just a full set of either 1.6 or 1.7. which would be better if I would benifit from them at all.with one of the comp cams sd cams.

Thanks,
Nate

If your budget is really tight, just get some E7s since that's what's coming off....that way you don't have to worry about updating an old set of heads. That is unless you can score some GT40/GT40P heads for CHEAP. As for the E7s, a buddy of mine used to run them, and he just gasket matched the intake and exhaust ports...not even a real porting job, and he picked up 11hp at the wheels from an hour or so of grinding....not bad if you ask me. Roller rockers will be great with that setup also, go with 1.6.'s.

I can probably score a set of 289 (maybe the ho ) heads for about 50 to 100.00 bucks, also the same price on a set of e7's and 351w heads. tha guy that is cleaning up my block said that if I got a set of 289's that it would cost me about 150.00 parts and labor to get them updated.

Also what are the cam#'s that comp offers for the sd cars?

Thanks,
Nate

i got a set of 66 289 heads. they are dissassembled and i am missing a couple of parts but not much. i would sell them for 50 if you want them. but if you want some nice bolton's go with thumper heads. they are nicely ported and i love mine. mine cost 700 because i got the spring upgrade but you can get a set for 600 with .500 lift springs.

I too have the Thumpers, I cant say how much power i am making just yet but they seem to be running pretty strong with the Tmoss intake and TFS1. I got the upgraded springs but still a decent bang for the buck.

I had thought about the Thumper heads but I dont really have the money for them. I mean with christmas coming up and me with 2 little boys I am also looking for them a couple of 4- wheelers so the car is just going to be a true budget build up. I am looking at about a total of 700.00 for the engine rebuild not counting the cam. Plus a gear install ( thinking about 3.73's). Dont get me wrong.... I would loe to have a set of thumpers along with the intake but the family comes before the ride.

Thanks,
Nate
