Righto, is there a heavy duty auto tranny for the 2.3 in existance?

I've heard so much against the A4LD, and I also heard that it can't really handle that much power being channeled through it.

If I ever end up getting the 2.3T swapped in, I was wondering if there was an auto tranny in existance that could handle upwards of 300 maybe 400 horses?

I was thinking that a 5.0 heavy duty AOD would do it, because I thought it was the same bolt pattern as the 2.3, but evidently I'm wrong.

i recommend 5-speed but I went to auto because wife car. A c-4 with proper bellhousing will work. They are hard to find in ?70's mustang and pinto with 2.3. Casting number D42p-7976-aa. I took my flex plate with me and c-4 picture and found mine. Do a Internet search on this and you will find info and pictures on it. Good Hunting.

Yup, a C4 is the way to go. I've got one running behind the 2.3 in my mustang now. It shifts very nice, and really handles the power in stride. On a c4, a 'stock' rebuild is good for about 300 hp, and some simple changes will make it reliable well beyond that.
The only real downside I've found is the lack of an OD. I'm surviving though, and drive up to 300 miles a week.
It should be really easy to figure out the driveshaft and cross member stuff. Did the ranger come with a T5? The T5 is the same length as the C4, and has the same output spines, so if the ranger came with it, then you just have to use the crossmember and driveshaft from a T5 ranger. Otherwise, figure out what people who put T5s in their ranger do, and you'll have your answer. ;)

The Ranger never got a T5. That's why I mentioned driveshaft and crossmember work.

It should be easier to hang a C4 under a Ranger than a T5. The biggest problem with the T5 in a Ranger is shifter location.
