I am not using that particular brand but I am using an HEI distributor and it's definitely nice. Noticed smoother power throughtout the RPM range. I bought Pertronix. That's not a bad price. I paid 250 for mine year ago.

this is funny... I just bought one from ebay last week... The one you just posted is from a speed shop here in my town... I would of just bought it there if I knew they had them .... however here is one I found a little cheaper... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...=8024752010&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1

I have HEI, so far I haven't had any problems with it. It's nice not having to fool around with points. In my opinion it smoothed out the engine, and I was coming from Cranes XR-i pointless ignition. For that price I would say it is worth it. Just don't plan on running a 14" air cleaner.

I have an HEI from DUI and it works very well. It also cleans up the engine compartment since it only requires a two wire hookup.

Yeah it does require a smaller air cleaner. Are any of you guys running Monte Carlo bars with yours ?

These two referenced on e bay lack worry me a little. They both used hardened gears and I wonder if they wouldn't tear up a regular hydraulic cam. Can the curve be adjusted? Polished to look like billet, hmmm. Tolerances? They may be fine but sometimes it pays to get the name brand.

I totally agree with you Dave... In my case i have a late model 5.0 that going in my stang w/ EFI controlled by a MegaSquirt computer. I plan on only using the distributor for only a little bit. The plan is to get the fuel map down then swap in a TFI distributor and do up the ignition. I defiantly wouldn't use a hardened steel gear on a non roller cam.

I'm pretty sure this was discussed before. I think that thats the "Procomp Electronics" HEI distributor. According to there website they have a 4340 Chromolly Steel Gear but they also say it is for use with cast and billet cams. Check it out. http://www.procompelectronics.com/Files/1.html
