Hey everyone. I'm a return user. I used to have an 01 Cobra and was a member on these forums for quite a while and trailed off. Now my dad are in the stages of getting a 65 coupe with a 289 ready to build up.

We both have a pretty good idea of what we want it to sound like. We both want it to be strong sounding. LOUD is always a good thing. Here is a video of our ideal sound. Can anybody tell me what setup you think this guy might have?

YouTube - Insane Mustang

Or, does anyone have any suggestions on what we could do to make it just sound MEAN? I know these 289 engines have a lot of potential.

Thanks everyone.. :nice:

Sounds like Flowmaster Delta flow mufflers to me. Probably a decent cam, headers, 2.5" exhaust and Flowmasters. Also, I know everyone installs an "X" pipe, but they kill the sound. There's a guy with a '66 around here that has the same cam as I do, long-tube headers (I have Tri-Y's) and the same 2.25" exhaust diameter and Flowmasters and it sounds near stock. Mine has a simple crossover pipe and cheap Turbo mufflers and sounds much more radical. His likely makes a few more ponies, and I'm sure his is quieter inside, but it just sounds stock.

I prefer the sound of H pipes too.

That sounds like original 40 series non delta Flowmasters to me. I think he also has turndowns instead of tailpipes.

I do like the sound of turndowns, but the can get annoying inside the car both from resonating noise and exhaust fumes.

I love the sound of 40 seris Flows. Thats what I have on mine.

I run Dynomax on mine.....a friend of mine has a Cobra down the street....we "call to each other" from the garage...our wives hate it...but we LOVE IT!!!
I think the sound thing is complete personal preference....but I like the deep growl.....
