my uncle purchased a 1971 mach 1 from a person that claims it is a true shelby mustang.....how do you tell???? are there any items that would make it a shelby???? the vin # is 1f05h153514 I have found through a vin decoder that this is a 1971 manufactured in dearborn Mi it has the sports roof mach 1 body style and the motor is a 351 2v v8......the car has an alluminum motor standard 4spd tranny and some kind of racing gears in the rear end....he paid about 15,000 for this car...I am afraid that it is not a true shelby, but I do not have the proper info.....help, please.....email is gamersworld_2@msn.com and my phone number is thank you, steve griffin

Its definitely not a true Shelby, production ended in '69 and they sold through '70. I'd also look at the engine real closely, as the 351 is a completely cast iron engine. What kinda shape is it in? For 15k, a 71 H-code Mach 1 should be mint.

I agree with others that your Mach is not a Shelby but is a legit '71 Mach 1 based on the vin. BTW, I think a recent issue of Mustang & Fords indicated there was a '71 model Shelby, but it was made and only sold in Mexico.
