HELP AGAIN. Timing trouble (i swear this is the last time)

I listened to all your advice and today i decided to try to tackle my timing problems. Heres what you told me to do:

Take off number one cylinder plug
turn till compression
make sure timing is at 0
turn distributer till rotor faces #1 plug wire
adjust from there

I did all of that but I couldnt turn it till compression(kinda tricky unless you guys can clarify a lil), so i skipped that and went straight to #3. It took a while but eventually 0* came around. Then I took off distributer cap. The rotor was exactly 180* off. I turned it till it was as close as i could get it. After i put it all back together i tried to start but it doesnt work. Motors turns but never actually starts. Im guessing i messed up when skipping compression step, can anyone clarify what im doin at that point? What should I do?

you'll need a hand to do this....pull #1 plug....grab a 15/16s socket for the balancer bolt.....have someone turn the motor over (clockwise) keep your finger over the plug hole....as the motor rotates your gonna get air pissing by your finger...this is compresssion stroke....stop...look at the balancer,,,are you close to 0??? if so, lightly turn the motor til the 0 on the balancer lines up with your timing mark...if your not close to the 0 when it pisses air, than rotate the motor again til it come close to 0....

when you have the 0 on the balancer....pull your dizzy cap...wheres the rotor pointing??? it should be approx under #1 on the cap...if its not...you need to pull the dizzy up, rotate the rotor til its approx at 12:00, drop the dizzy in...it should rotate to approx 1:00....try the cap again...it should be close to #1...if its still off some pull the dizzy up,,,rotate the rotor like 1/4-1/2"...drop the thing back in...check the position....this is " moving a tooth" to get it better for the rotor to #1 on the cap....

You don't need a friend, just skip the finger-in-hole step twice. If it doesn't even cough and try to start the first attempt, rotate the distribute 180* and do it again. There are only two TDC's, one of them will be the right one.

If you skip the finger thing twice you can still be off. After you skip the finger n hole thing the first time and start your motor,if it's off, the rotor turns and you have to start over again. Just do the finger n hole method and do it right the first time. Pull your dizzy out, bring your #1 cylinder around on the compression stroke (finger n hole method) then keep turning motor til balancer reads 0 degrees. Stab your distributor where your rotor points to the 1 on the cap. Tighten your distributor down and crank the car up. Adjust timing if needed.

ITS ALIVE!!! thanks all,
btw, does driving without the spout connecter harm or do anything? i kinda forgot to put it back in after messing with my timing
Yes, the car will be sluggish and have poor acceleration. I left you a message on your other post. Check it out it has some useful info. :nice:
