If that guy was only at your bumper by 120 then there's not a whole lot to worry about...that's still a big gap when it comes to hp. If you had 3.55's or 3.73's you probably would have had a car length on him. The SC will give you buslenghts on this ***boy.
I'd ask him "You wanna race again? Good! Let's take it to the track where I can stomp your car's ass if front of a larger audience!" Then tell him to come back in a year and try it again,after his high RPM 4 banger's on it's last leg,and your 5."slow" is still going strong. Don't sweat punks that talk all the BS. My buddy had a AWD dsm Talon with a 16g turbo and several other mods it was mad fast. I personally saw him run low low 12's and then he did more mods and hit 11's. You have to be cautious of anyone who is willing to race cause you know they must have something. My buddys car looked like a POS but it would mash out.
Yeah, he wanted to run on the highway because at 50mph in a low enough gear he'd be running pretty much full boost with no lag. if it wasn't an AWD model, he wouldn't stand a chance in a light to light race, they just don't have it from a standstill. Now, I did test drive a '95 AWD turbo Eclipse, and so I can say from experience that they can be launched at 6000rpm no problem- and I do mean launched. I thought the salesman was going to faint, it was great. I pounded the crap outa that car, and he was right- it really was fast! The point is, they aren't to be messed with in a stock 5.0. However, I think you obviously had this one in the bag. I'd start with gears- a well driven bolt on stang with gears can take even a fairly modified DSM, AWD turbo or no. Running a blower yourself would fairly guarantee you a win, but not if you can't make it stick. You shouldn't have to resort to boost to beat this guy, or any of his gangbanging buddies.
*edit: yes, 58cc chambers are going to make for higher compression than is preferred with a supercharger- not that it hasn't been done successfully by dozens of people. Just riskier.
i was geting ready to do some gtech runs out where its just stop sign to stop sign and this car came up behind me it was a 944 turbo and all i said was **** i wish i had more money. i pulled on him off the line but then bam he just flys up on my ass and has to let off while im still going full force. we keep doign this for a few signs and then he comes up flys next to me and hangs while im still giving my five point slow all it has. ends up i went to school with him and i meet him when we both drove datsun Z's. but he had droped a new motor and proble new turbo as well. so i just fegure damn he spanked me but if i had a turbo lets race again.
