I have looked in the sticky for the 3g wiring upgrade for my car, and I understand what needs to be done. however I have talked to another person who did not hook up any wires to his Powermaster 140a except the main 8ga line to the solenoid. He says this has worked for him for for a long time but it goes against everything I have read online. Does anyone have any experence with this or the 3g upgrade totaly different from the Powermaster?

Thanks for your help

That Powermaster is probably self-exciting.

Self exciting alt's are 'kick-started' at a threshold RPM and they don't utilize a feedback circuit, nor an external field-winding loop. Hence no wiring sans a power cable.

It could be because of the U/D.

Self-exciters can be a pain to get going (sometimes the start-up idle isnt enough to excite 'em, especially on a warm start) but once charging, the alt should charge fine (whether SE'ing or not).
