Hey guys,

I just installed my Tri-Ax the other night...really have loved it...everything has gone well for 3 or 4 nights and then I was driving tonight.

I started to notice that I wasn't engaging into 2nd and 4th nearly as well as normal. I thought I was being paranoid....or maybe it was because of the cold weather. For whatever reason I kept driving...and had no problems for a while.

When I was driving home, one time when I shifted into 2nd, it popped a little and shot it out of gear. Then I went back out tonight on my way home I lost the ability to go into 2nd and 4th. If I try to shift into it...it just never engages. It really doesn't make a loud noise, or doesn't act like anything horrible...but I want to make sure me driving around in 1st, 3rd and 5th is not going to blow something up before I can fix it tomorrow.

I am thinking the back stop on the shifter must have come loose...or must not be set correctly. Do you guys think this is a fair assumption? If not, any ideas?

Going from 1st to 3rd to 5th is not going to hurt...its fine! Like you said the stop bolts most likely came loose and are stopping it from going into 2nd and 4th.

I read a tech article about the 5 speeds having internal shift stops and that you should not install the stops that come with aftermarket shifters.
The reason given: "The transmission could POP out of gear and damage the shift rail"
I never instaled the stops with my Tri-ax.

I've had mine installed for about 2 years now and I haven't had any problems! Check to make sure that the stops aren't loose or set too far out and keeping the shifter from letting 2nd and 4th engage. If that's not the problem it may be the syncronizers, but they usually wear down slowly and eventually stop working. Good luck!

If you want to keep the locks make sure to adjust them by the instructions and use loc-tite to secure them.
I don't think a syncro would be bad on your car because you say 2nd and 4th are out.
The syncros are 1/2, or 3/4.

1-3-5 is not bad, but you may have serious tranny problems. The biggest prob with shift stops in the shifter is to be sure they're not out too far so it doesn't let you get it all the way in gear. I'm keeping my shift stops in my shifter so I can't over shift it. Even though I do think the above is right that the tranny already has shift stops. My Tri-Axe shift stops are set about a piece of paper width passed when the shifter rested normally in gear. Just enough for the stop not to touch the shifter while in gear. Suppposed to quieten soem noise by not touching there too. Good luck hope your damage is not bad -
