In the process of putting an older 88 motor which has been rebuilt to a 306 has a b303 cam, ross pistons and windsor jr heads and of course headers and intake. My question is how to time the car correctly and in reference to where the rotor button should be pointing? One more thing is how do the wires go out from the distributor ie 135789 maybe a pic. would help my damn brain lapse? Also what would change the firing order for it to have to be different? :bang:

If I remember correctly you make sure the #1 piston is at top dead centre, and make sure the rotor is pointing to the #1 plug wire. I forget, but I think the cylinder needs to be at tdc on the compression stroke. Nothing should change going from a stock cam to a b, maybe you have it set on the exhuast stroke and not compression.

The engine needs to be at TDC on the #1 cylinder, just remove the #1 plug and put your finger in the plug hole. Turn the engine by hand until you feel air hit your finger, continue turning then until your TDC mark lines up on the balancer. Then make sure the rotor button is at the point for the number one plug wire. If not you will have to remove the distributor and rotate the button to the #1 plug wire spot and re-install it . The firing order is 13726548 in a counterclockwise spin.

Shttygtstang has posted the diagram before.
