I’ve been having an on going problem with my car turning over and not starting. It’s completely random and would turn over a few times and then finally start. This morning it would not start for a very long time. I kept trying and trying and finally it started. I replaced my IAC valve last weekend hoping that would make a difference and it didn’t.

My friend who has been a mechanic for years and works for Honda and he said they have anti theft receivers in the ignition where if you use the wrong key it senses it and cuts the fuel and will just turn over and not start. He said sometimes the receiver/sensor goes bad. Do Mustangs have a similar thing and could that be it? How would you test it?

Any other things I could check? I dont want to get stuck 25 miles away from home at work!

Does it only do it when the engine is fully warmed up?

I seemed in the past that it did it when it was warmed up mostly but it was totally cold this morning.

Yes, disconnect the battery. If the guages sweep when you start it up you were successful in resetting the PCM.

Is it possible its the battery? I read a post where replacing the battery fixed it. Its the orignal battery. I guess I can have it tested.

Is it ok to clean the MAF wire with something like rubbing alcohol or do I need to get the electrical parts cleaner?
