help!! installing an alarm system

I ordered an alarm online and after looking around I thinkits going to a harder install then i thought, any general tips would be nice. mostly what the box with the wires is supposed to hook up to

the wires go to many different places. if you're not comfortable doing a LOT of cutting and splicing then dont attempt it yourself. i have installed a few alarms in the past and it took me a while to put mine on the stang

Unless you're comfortable working with electronics I would pay someone else to do it. When I did mine I needed about 3 relays and also diodes in order to make everything work properly. Get someone that's good to do it though, I've heard some shops do a major hack job that can cause other problems down the road if something comes loose.

Aside from what's in the box, you'll need at least 1 good roll of 16 AWG wire, a few relays, a few diodes, a soldering iron (I recommend the battery powered ones, but NOT the cold heat ones!), plenty of solder, and patience. Oh, and like the other 2 said, you'll need some comfort in working with electronics.

If you want a lifetime warranty on the work, go to Best Buy. They charged me $99 for the alarm install (it was a Viper 791XV) and they didn't enable the remote start, so I did that myself.

The performance of an alarm system in a car has more to do with the install than the actually alarm quality itself.

If you want it to perform properly at the moment a thief trys to take your car, have a pro install it.
