Help, Lights And Wipers

Im working out a couple of small issues, and a new one cropped up.

my instrament lights arent working.. i replaced my heater core.. reinstalled everything and replaced a few bulbs and everything was working well. also installed a new stereo. Now all the sudden they arent working.. not just my dash but also the heater controlls etc.. if i adjust my dimmer nothing happens, but i can adjust the dimmer all the way up and the dome light goes on as it should.. i checked my fuse, looks fine. im gonna check the "lumination" wire on the stereo as i found other threads where that was the problem, but for them it was popping fuses as well, and i dont think i even wired it up. i guess ill start checking wires.. but shy of that im thinking its gotta be the dimmer switch ? any other thoughts?

Also my wipers arent working. i havent tested the relay/motor/ or fuse itself yet, my question is , how do you test the "fuse" as it doesnt look like a normal fuse, looks more like a relay.... if its got continuety its good?

Check you ignition switch. I had a similar issue and my ignition switch was bad. Very cheap part and an easy fix.

They are known to split over time and make all the connections within the assembly.

my ignition switch?? how would that effect either of these? my dimmer and headlight switch are in the dash, dont think they have anything in the column.

wipers, maybe if the arm /ignition are some how intertwined, but that would seem really weird to me, but ive never taken apart a ford column, so maybe? thanks for the tip, ill take a look there.

Recall on Ford Ignition switches:

Revised 7-June-2014 to add Torx bit picture and source. Also added replacement ignition switch wiring pigtail picture, part numbers and sources.

Some of the symptoms of ignition switch problems are things that don’t work or are intermittent like radio, turn signals, wipers or heater.

There was a FREE recall on Ford ignition switches. They overheat and sometimes catch fire. That burns up the steering column and sometimes the car interior. Since this is very old information, you may not be able to get the switch replaced for free anymore. The auto parts stores sell the switches for $13-$15.

While you are working on the switch, check the wiring and connector closely. A replacement connector with new wiring pigtails is available from most auto parts stores

What he said^^^, that's how lol

The ignition switch is a series of contacts that will tell items to turn on as the key is in the ACC or run position . if not all the contacts are making good connection not everything will work. Like I said I had a similar issue and $14 and less than a half hour of my time it's now fixed.

Check lmr.com for it. 14.99 for a heavier duty than oem. I recently replaced mine for "preventative maintenance" after replacing my flasher relay.
