I was installing the gt40 upper and lower manifold, took out the distributor and forgot to make any kind of marks. Now my timing is off big time. I have the Haynes manual but it is a step by step thing which tells you to make a mark on the distributor, and does not say how to get the timing done without any mark. Does anyone know how to get it where its supposed to be, or maybe a link with instructions on how to get my timing back? I spent all of last night trying to get the car to run and it turned on but it runs rough and eventually turns off. Also I have a stock cam.

Take out spark plug #1. Take a little piece of a rag and jam it in there. Start turning your car over untill the rag pops out out. Then you know your at top dead center with cylinder #1. Then pop your dizzy out and line the rotor on to #1 cylinder wire on the cap. Would be like 11 O'clock looking at the engine. This will get you close enough to set a timing light up.

thnx i got it working. i still dont have a timing gun so im running it stock. the manifold made no difference over stock. the car feels the same. i know i have stock heads and all but damn i figured more air to the heads might help. maybe if i do the timing it should wake up?? i dont know? all i have done is intake, 75mm tb, gt40 upper and lower, msd, pullies, 355gears, full exhaust w/ shorties, bbk fuel reg, 255 lph pump, cobra clutch, and aluminum driveshaft. after installing the upper and lower i was really disappointed with the result

The performance will improve if you set the timing with a timing light. The odds are you are off by at least 10 degrees, which will hurt performance.

I have an explorer intake manifold, which is very similar in terms of airflow. It helped out nicely at the upper end of the power curve.

yea but there are places that say to expect a 30hp gain. then i install this thing and i feel nothing. a 30hp gain is something u would definately feel. thats why the only thing i could think is that a 30hp gain would only be possible with better heads. has anyone swapped their stock manifolds and felt a big difference with stock heads? also i should have it set at 14* right??

10* is stock, keep bumping it up untill you get detonation then back it down a bit

most ppl run 12-14 with stock heads

thnx alot guys. got the timing on nicely. its now set at 15* and the car feels stronger than ever. first off it was so off that one piston was mis firing therefore i had no power. with that i mind i still ran the car and it felt the same as when it had the stock manifold. now that the timing is set it feel like a totally different car. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. major power increase. :SNSign: . and this weekend > :Track:
