Help me finish up this beast

First let me say thank you all for the advice and crits on this long project. I am trying to finish it up and need to ask a few more questions... I really want to drive it soon...

1. I am going to route the power steering under the lower control arm, because there just is not enough room to go beside the header. Question: Where do I get a pressure side line that is pre made to go under the arm? The original line takes a turn up beside the engine. Unbent would also be fine, as I have a bender for the hard line.

2. I removed the old foot pump and bottle (broken/leaked) for the window washer and will put in a switch and a new bottle with an electric pump on it. Question: Has anyone done this swap and if so, how did you do the wiring?

3. I will have to drive it in primer for a few months before I can do the paint. Question in two parts: What is the best primer to use if I am going to drive it; I have a gallon of Omni in the basement, will that work? (part two)- Am I just wasting my time doing a ton of prep work on the car to then have to do it all over again when I want to paint it?

4. What is it like to drive your cars, because I have forgotten!!!! Soon, very soon!! Thanks all for your help over the past year.

The pump is 2 wire pump,ground one side,the other gets power from a switch.Run a key switched 12V to a switch(momentary type) to the pump.

for extended "raw" primer, i have used K200, its the yellowish looking primer, but you couls add a tint of any color

Any tractor company will have the fittings to make any hydraulic line you need. Napa also has a decent selection of fittings but you have to know what your looking for around here because they don't have a counter person with a brain. Because it's a moving part, prefab waht you think you'll need with brake line and fuel hose, that way you can actually bollt it on and turn the wheel to make sure it will work, then bring your sample with you when you go to buy the parts.

1. Does it have to be a hard line, or could it be braided? I pulled all my PS off, so I don't know.

2. I haven't, but I'd like to know others' experiences as well. I'd also like to give kudos to the engineer that thought it was a good idea to put the pedal right over the high beam switch.

3. Most people will tell you that no primer, especially not the rattle can type, will protect if you drive around or get it wet. It will absorb contaminants and water, the last thing you want when it's getting a $2500 paint job. The best thing to do is probably to rough-out the work that needs to be done and then seal it up with some cheap enamel until you can do the whole thing and shoot it.

4. I'd almost forgotten as well. I've been driving the SVO around for the last week, and a '91 Civic the week before. I thought the SVO was pretty fast until I drove the '68 around to scare out the mice and get the fluids circulating. It weighs the same, but has more than twice the engine and 60% more power. Four wheel drum doesnt stop like the SVO's all-discs, though.

Hey Worth, living in my old stomping grounds. We lived just after the bridge for a few years then moved to Woburn. I try to go back every couple of years. We lived off of Sunshine beach for a while as well. Anyway, Great idea on the fab thing. See, just gotta ask if your stumped.

iskwezm- my switch has three wires. Maybe I'll just ditch the entire wiring. Does it connect somehow to the wipers? Can't figure out the schematics. Not like I am going to be driving it in the rain much anyway. Bugs suck though.... Did you see my console/sub thread? What do you think? I liked your console build up, very nice!

Primer question- just got answered by a new contract I picked up. I am just going to have it painted. Relief...

You probubly wouldn't recognise it anymore, it's been going down hill fast. We 're quickly becoming a suburb of Beantown and the prices have gotten out of control. The house I built for 100K they claim is worth 400K + now. They're pretty much driving the kids out of town, they can't afford to live here anymore. 2 of my 3 sons are still living at home, I built an apartment for them cause they couldn't afford to move out on their own.

I'll probubly sell this place in a few years and move someplace cheaper to retire. I hear the Keys calling me

When we were out two yrs ago, my now ex and I just goofed around and walked into an open house that backed to marsh. The were trying to get 600K for it. Crap, it was smaller by half of the house we bought here for $250K. About the Keys... like Jimmy Buffet said, the tin cans (trailer homes) have taken over. It's a shame!!!

Drive...do you guys actually DRIVE your old Mustangs??? I am confused!

I haven't driven the '66 in >20 yrs. We started resurrecting it 2 1/2 yrs ago. Hope to actually finish it this year as we're back on it again.

LOL, I did a complete resto on my 69 coupe which I don't drive, and I drive my 70 ragtop that needs a complete resto I like driving it too much to take it apart

I have been trying to clean up just a ton of loose ends with this rebuild. I did write everything down and took a bunch of pics as I pulled stuff apart so that is not a big deal. The problem I have been having is wrapping my head around the 100's of things left to do. Nothing major, but the sheer volume has been a bit overwhelming. I have been going through the list, plugging away and have started to see the light.

I think I could actually get it on the road by Tax Day.

Let me tell you, there was *nothing* sweeter than taking that first drive around the block after 7 months in paint and 2 months in reassembly.

2. the pump switch contained 4 wires, two black, one red, one white. The schematic is rediculous in the big green book so I think I am going to have to wait until I have the car fired up to test which combination initiates the wipers when you step on the switch; or as in the new switch push the new button. Unless someone can help me here....?

re primer - a good epoxy primer can survive exterior use for an extended period of time. However, automotive paints are trick and complex chemicals. If you have a good automotive paint store they should be willing to assist. If you're painting the car yourself you will be spending several hundred dollars with them.

I have the same power steering hose routing challenge you do and posted on the other thread you referenced here. I havn't solved my problem yet as there are a bunch of other things I have been working on and continue to push this task off. If you are close to implementing a fix via new lines or rebending existing lines etc, please take many pics and post on StangNet. I'm hoping to finish my build up by early/mid April and would appreciate having any lessons learned. If I beat you to it, I'll post pics as well. Good luck!

68, I have a good diagram that shows where the wires go in the plug if that will help, it's a PDF. hit me up at acrad@adelphia.net and I'll send it to you.

jcode68- I plan to do the mock up with old brake line and rubber hose, then take it to a Hydrolics shop and have them put the appropriate ends on the new line.
