having hard time getting motivated to go put the explorer upper and lower on. went and got gaskets today.

Its really not hard at all. You should spend more time cleaning the gaskets surfaces than tearing it down. Even though i GREATLY enjoy it, starting doing a build can be very dreadful. Took me about a week to change my water pump. Once you start taking off the CAI and throttle bracket you'll notice its not a lot of work. Thats where I start. And its easier to take off the t/b and spacer with the intake off. I would wake up one morning at like 11 and go out and get started, that's the best thing to do, if you start later in the afternoon it starts to get late quick.

What choice is it you're wanting us to help you make? Whether or not to do it?

I say don't do it. Box those things up and ship them to me immediately. I get more go-fast goodies to put on my car, and you never have to face the dilemma of whether or not you should go install these parts on your car. Everybody wins.

Ryan, i built my engine and dropped it in with this son-of-satan oil pan i had on it only to find out my starter croaked and i would have to pull the damn engine back out just to get the starter swapped, then i had to swap oil pumps and oil pans because i wasn't going to do all that again just to change a starter. The second time pulling it out i had just about no help and got it out and back in all in one day.

In other words, get out there and do work. It ain't gonna swap itself.

its not that i dont know how to do it. its cake to do. just stuff i was forgetting after starting and not starting till 11pm.( its now 8 am ) since parts stores are opening up imma go grab what i need. i spent half the night in the garage baby sitting a drunk which turned into some funny times haha. took my time with it since i was with some buddies and then get the lower all on and go oh ****. know there was something i was forgetting to do. so now got to take the lower back off and drill and tap ACT sensor. also. cant get the coolant tube off stock lower so now i have to find something to cap it on the explorer lower. mise well run to jegs and get the auto meter colant temp sending unit while its all apart and get that in there. also better do a new thermostat which is all these things that slipped my mind so i spent some time painting some more things.

Wait until you have a steady GF that you live with (that takes up about 130% of your time), and the car is located somewhere else.

Ask me how motivated I am to get in the truck, drive to the house, work on it, get back and drive home. Needless to say nothing has been done to mine other than one drive, and removed my friends seats.

Your 17 or 18? That was when I used to haul a$$ on the car to get stuff done. I redid the engine bay, put the motor I have in now, did the T5 swap, etc... Do it all now while you have the time, and energy.

Yeah, and wait until you're pushing 30 and spending an evening bent over your engine bay makes you wake up feeling like you rolled down a mountain side.

It's those little things that add up. I've got about 2k into my new short block but the block itself was only 1350. I have no idea where the rest went...just little bits here and there like a new timing chain, new oil pump, gaskets, fluids, etc. When you think you have enough money for a project, save up 1/2 as much more and you might be ok.

17. my dads my other restraint. lol he dont like me making my car faster or lower or louder. or even shinier :scrtach: damn he is a grump.

It only gets worse as the years add on, then add higher priorities like your family (and their stuff going on), your home(s), your business and/or job requiring 50-60hrs/wk.

That sucks, my father has a 9 second LX hatch, so I can't really relate there.

Trust me though, if/when you can get around the old man, get the motivation and get the work done now. From your age to about 21-22 I got the most done to the car. Since then, I do next to nothing to it. Priorities start to happen, and that old age thing like the 30 year olds are mentioning....
