Pull the dizzy and remove the plug from Cylinder #1. Have someone turn the crank while you put your thumb over the plug hole. When you feel it building compression, have them stop turning just when it stops pushing air and you're pretty close to having #1 TDC. Poke the distributor back in with the rotor pointing at the #1 plug wire post on the cap. If it doesn't start or it BARELY runs, shut it off, pull the distributor out, rotate it 180*, poke it back in, and try again.

Had to go through this, myself, when I pulled everything apart to do the intake manifold gaskets on the '84 a few weeks ago (because whatever marks I made before I pulled it apart somehow got smudged off) ... except I didn't have the advantage of having a helper, so I had to keep pulling the dizzy, moving it forward a tooth, and re-stabbing it one tooth at a time until it finally started. Talk about frustrating...

i can not get the thermostat to seal! i broke the first housing. which makes me wonder if the lower is warped. luckily my buddy had an extra housing. new gasket and again. still leaking. this is frustrating. so much for driving this thing anytime soon.

That sucks, my father has a 9 second LX hatch, so I can't really relate there.

Speaking of which, when are you guys coming down to atco to get some really good times? Depending on how things work out, I'm looking at a place 20 mins from atco if you want somewhere to crash. If you're still looking for abandoned buildings for photos, this should work with no agg from security as long as we don't go in the buildings. And this time, I don't have to work.
