ok guys, i know you've had this question alot but whats the diffenrence in the X pipes and H pipes... what are the different adjantages and disadjantages.. wha thifferent sounds do they make and what do you prefer... i'm goin next week to price a whole flowmaster exhaust system and wanted to know which would be better to have .. the h's or the y's.. thanks for your help

off road X-pipe... this weekend I'm going from a catted high flow h-pipe to an offroad x-pipe. If you go to mustangexhaust.com you can hear clips of different setups on different stangs. I'll let you know what the sound difference is like on monday when I make the switch.

What I would do is have the exhaust shop build the x or h pipe instead of buying one because I got my h pipe built for $50 and it looks as good as a bbk or any other brand, they even use high temp paint for the welds and everything. I compared it to a summit magazine after they were done, identicle... I had flowmasters at first (they are cheap and have the authentic mustang sound. And I liked it, and then I had them make an offroad h. And it sounded more throaty, And am not sure if that was because of no cats or what but, you know.

I like my Bassani X-pipe. Should sound good when I get some louder mufflers.

It's all a matter of what you like; the deep classic mustang sound that an h-pipe gives,or the european ferrari rasp of an x-pipe. Also an x will provide ever so slightly more hp than an h-pipe.

actually, I'm seeing more and more dyno results that show a good 5+ rwhp OR x vs. OR h pipe.. so basically, a catted x-pipe matches a OR h-pipe.. (good way to get cats!) :D

Ditto....btw I have the Flowmaster 2-Chamber 40 Series (not the delta flows), and a custom made X-pipe (I love working at an exhaust shop!). The car has no cats and sounds very comparable to a deep sounding Ferrari. I know that sounds wierd, but it sounds a lot like that. I second having a custom x-pipe made if you have an exhaust shop nearby that you trust, its cheaper, and I think you will like the sound better than an off the shelf mid pipe.

The only X-pipes that make a significant amount more horsepower are those that have the cross-over as close to the front of the car as possible, like the Dr. Gas pipe. If you don't believe me, look under most of the cars at NMRA events.

I have the bassani X pipe and love it. However, I HATED the sound with flowmasters. IMHO, I think if you go with flows, you should go with an offroad H. I personally HATE flowmasters now, they drone BADLY and they don't make the power like a straight through design does. If your not set on that... I'd re-think it. I have dynomax welded race magnum mufflers which are now called their welded ultra flow mufflers. I have the stock tail pipes on there still too. I LOVE my cars sound. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
